Christine G Shimko (nee Devlin)
Christine G Shimko (nee Devlin) of Ireland passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, after suffering a sudden and severe hemorrhagic stroke. She was 67 years old. Known for her distinctively memorable and contagious laugh, she was soon to retire from her career with HeadStart where she found a perfect outlet for her sense of nurturing and her delight in the wonder of children and watching them grow.
Christine was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Gen Devlin, and her sister Maureen Pinho, all from New Jersey. She is survived by her husband Chick of Ireland, her daughter Megan and son-in-law Dusty of Weston, her three brothers: Mark Devlin of New Jersey, Tom Devlin of Florida, and Matthew Devlin also of New Jersey, her favorite Thom Pinho of Baltimore, and dearests Kayla and Adam Williams of Weston and Elkins respectively. She leaves behind a host of loving in-laws; a bevy of adoring nieces and nephews; cousins galore; and friends that were, indeed, family. Words fall short to express just how much she’ll be sorely missed by all.
Those that knew Chris were treated to someone that always saw the best in everyone around them (except maybe litterbugs.) She was never without a kind word or offer of gentle encouragement. She knew to cherish moments that mattered and effortlessly created mountains of those memories with her loved ones.
Christine’s wishes to be cremated will be honored by her family. Arrangements will be determined at a later date.
The family requests any donations in Chris’ honor be made in support of the helpers in her community: The Lewis County Emergency Squad at 155W 2nd St., Weston WV 26452; Walkersville Fire Department at 16629 US19, Walkersville, WV 26447; And Lewis County Family Resource Network at PO Box 1168, Weston, WV 26452. Always look for the helpers.
In lieu of flowers, consider offering yourself some kindness and be extra gentle and patient with yourself where you otherwise might not normally; offer someone some uplifting words- even for a stranger, but especially for a child; and hug your loved ones close and share your appreciation for them as Chris never failed to do. Leave the world a kinder, more loving place- letting that be her legacy for us all.
Stockert Funeral Home is honored to serve the Shimko family.
