Violet Rose Hall Starcher
Violet Rose Hall Starcher, 87 of Webster Springs, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown. She was born June 4, 1936 in Eskdale, WV (Kanawha County), to the late Henry Ellis “Boots” and Mary Alice Gollihue Hall and was a homemaker.
She was Baptist by Faith, a graduate of Webster Springs High School, and was known around Webster Springs for painting houses inside and out, a hobby and job at which she excelled and enjoyed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frederick Allen Starcher; brother Charles Hall; and sisters Lena Lake and Helen Cowger. She is survived by her daughters Linda Sue (Mike) Callahan of Camden on Gauley and Frankie “Jeannie” (Chris) Miller-Bologna of Hollywood, MD; grandsons Chad Michael Callahan of Camden on Gauley, Camden Tully Miller of Altadena, CA, and Casey Franklin (Melanie) Miller of Norfolk, VA; step-grandson Joseph Timothy (Rachael) Miller of Baltimore, MD; and several extended family and friend to mourn her passing.
Funeral Services to celebrate Violet’s life were held on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs. Friends joined the family for visitation one hour prior to service time at the Funeral Home. Interment followed in Miller Cemetery, Webster Springs.

Beatrice Leah Osburn
Beatrice Leah Osburn Clayton, 80 of North East, MD, formerly of Webster Springs, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023 at her home.
She was born January 1, 1943 in Webster Springs to the late Elmer and Jessie Dale Hamrick Osburn and was an LPN before her retirement. Bea enjoyed watching old TV shows, canning food, sewing, and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Billy Brown Wright; second husband Floyd Clayton; son Kenneth Wright; and brother Laird Osburn.
She is survived by her daughters Donna Mullen of Townsend, DE and Lucinda Parks of Conway, SC: sisters Bertha Klusky, Lorraine Ellet, Mary Mullens, and Linda Holley; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several extended family and friends to mourn her passing.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs. Funeral Services to celebrate Bea’s life will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Butch Rose officiating. Interment will follow in Osburn Family Cemetery, Webster Springs.

David Mark Stalnaker
David Mark Stalnaker, 69 of Glenville, WV; departed this earthly life in the afternoon hours of Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born April 24, 1954 in Grantsville, WV; son of the late Jack V. and Ann L. (Carpenter) Stalnaker.
David is a graduate of Gilmer County High School, class of 1972, Glenville State University in 1976 (BA in Business Administration) and a Masters of Business Administration/Marketing from Marshall University in 1977.
Dave worked numerous jobs including but not limited to Materials Manager, Production Manager, and Plant Manager at BF Goodrich Aerospace and Defense Division in Grantsville, WV; Director of Operations at Ellis and Watts in Cincinnati, OH; Operations Manager for the Goodrich Corporation in Spencer, WV; Plant Manager at Guardian Automotive in Morehead, KY; and Human Resources Representative at Glenville State University.
After retirement, Dave enjoyed living the quiet life on Vanhorn Drive where he cared for his loving wife Judy after her illness, and kept in almost daily contact with his close neighbors. He treasured time at his cabin on Red Creek in Tucker County and would offer it to trusted friends year around. He was a Methodist by faith, and enjoyed fossil collecting, exploring the outdoors, bird watching, storytelling with family and friends, and spoiling his grandchildren whenever possible.
On August 14, 1976 Dave was united in marriage to Judith Ann (Rhodes) Stalnaker, who survives at their Glenville home.
Surviving are 2 loving daughters, Gretchen Carter and husband Matt of Tanner, WV; and Abigail Stalnaker of Glenville, 2 grandchildren, Colin Carter of Tanner, and Matthew Carter Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Sue Ann Charles of Glenville, and many other cherished relatives and friends.
Dave’s request for cremation has been honored and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Rocky Wayne Starcher
Rocky Wayne Starcher, 70, of Glouster, Ohio passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
He was born January 10, 1953, in Sutton, West Virginia to the late John Harley Starcher and Virgie E. Lewis Starcher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Eli Starcher; nephews, Kenny Holcomb and baby Cogis.
Rocky was a truck driver and a security guard. He had a strong work ethic. Fishing was his favorite pastime. He was friendly to everyone and would lend a helping hand to anyone.
He is survived by his four sisters, Bertha McCourt and fiancé, Ezra Westfall of Newville, Kathy Green and fiancé, Johnny Tenney of Craigsville, Connie Holcomb of Clarksburg and Norma Starcher of Sutton; brother, Lonnie Starcher (Linda) of Pennsylvania; two nieces; two nephews; three great nieces; and two great nephews.
Rocky’s funeral service was 1 P.M. Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Pastor Jim Criner officiating.
Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment followed in the Walker Cemetery, near Birch River, WV.

William (Bill) Donald Reth Jr
William (Bill) Donald Reth Jr., age 64, passed away on July 12, 2023 at his home in Glenville, WV after a long battle with leukemia. Bill was born on April 27, 1959 in Baltimore, MD to William Donald and Asako Reth, both deceased. He is also preceded in death by niece, Stephanie Reth, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Bill graduated from Lansdowne High School in Baltimore County in 1977. Early employment included working as a truck loader for UPS and as a cook at several restaurants where he developed his culinary skills. He enjoyed and excelled in drafting since junior high school and in the 1980s began his career as a mechanical draftsman at Black and Decker in Easton MD. Bill moved to the drafting department of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Linthicum, MD, which became Northrop Grumman Corporation, and retired after a 35-year career.
Bill was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Glenville, WV where he previously served on the board of trustees.
Bill is survived by his wife Linda Reth, brother, Alan (Judy) Reth, brother-in-law, Samuel Ours Jr., sister-in-law Debra (Gregory) Dennie. He also leaves behind children Jordan Reth, Shawn Reth, Riley Parrish, Parish (Bridget) Wolfe, and Samuel Parrish (Ira Kraemer), and Linda’s second cousin Dawne (Ronnie) McHenry as well as many nieces, nephews, and their children.
Bill brought his drafting skills to bear in the early 2000s, drawing up blueprints for the home he and Linda designed and built mostly on weekends for over a decade. Their home is on the farm that has been in Linda’s family since 1832, and they enjoyed their early retirement years there.
A funeral service was conducted at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 112 East Main Street, Glenville, WV 26531 at 1:00 PM; Tuesday, July 18, 2023 with Rev. Mike Ford officiated. Friends were received from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Tuesday at the church on Main St.
Following services, Bill’s request for cremation was honored, and he was laid to rest in the Stalnaker Cemetery (Glenville) at a later date.
In addition to flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, c/o June Nonnenberg, 416 Kanawha Street, Glenville, WV 26351 in honor of Bill.
