Braxton Bash Wrestling Tournament Deemed Success

By Shirley Shuman
The Braxton Bash, held in the BCMS gym last Saturday, featured twelve teams. Knights’ coach Duane Williams explained that of the 12 expected teams, one was a no-show, but an All-Star team was created out of junior varsity wrestlers from each of the 11 teams present “to fill in the gap and maintain the tournament count.”
The Knights, the third smallest team in Saturday’s tournament, placed third as they defeated Logan Middle, Western Greenbrier Middle, and Triadelphia Middle. Blennerhassett Middle won the tournament, and Elkview Middle took second.
Coach Williams commented that “a lot of [his] wrestlers really step[ped] up to win some big matches to help us get to third place.” He added, “Even though we were the third smallest team at the meet, you wouldn’t know it by how we performed. As the season progresses, I am seeing a lot of growth out of our wrestlers and am really looking forward to the next few weeks where we will be competing at our conference championship and the WSAZ tournament in Huntington.”
