Elk River Trail Foundation Joins National Celebrate Trails Day With Gassaway Event

Organizers are planning a local Celebrate Trails Day. The event is hosted by the nation’s largest trail advocacy organization Rails to Trails Conservancy (RTC), Elk River Trail Foundation (ERTF). Gassaway Celebrate Trails Day 2024 will occur on Saturday, April 27th beginning at 9am at the Gassaway Depot.
Area enthusiasts are invited to hike or bike the Elk River Rail Trail, followed by hot dogs and baked goods to benefit Gassaway Days Celebration 2024, and music by the Strumalongs.
RTC is calling on people across the country to get outdoors on trails this spring to celebrate how trails and connected trail networks bring joy and impact people’s lives. Celebrate Trails Day takes place on April 27, 2024 with hundreds of events nationwide that serve to inspire more people to make trails, walking and biking part of their everyday lives.
The Elk River Trail Foundation will host the event in partnership with Bigfoot Braxxie’s Bikes to bring together the community, share health and fitness tools, and spread awareness to all that the rail trail has to offer.
“Our community is fortunate to have the beautiful Elk River Trail. Celebrate Trails Day is a perfect time to get together with friends and take a walk, bike or run on the trail.
Get out and enjoy all the outdoors has to offer,” says Delegate Lori Dittman, one of the organizers of the event.
“There is unmatched potential in trail networks to make walking and biking part of our everyday lives, unlocking all of the good that happens when we are active outside, in the places where we live,” said Brandi Horton, RTC’s vice president of communications. “That’s why RTC is uniting everyone in a common appreciation for trails—and the impact of connecting trails in our communities. Our time on the trail is so much more than a day outside.”
