Gassaway Library to hold Souper Bowl Event Saturday

By Shirley Shuman

Those who want to enjoy some good homemade soup and desserts, listen to live music, meet 11 local authors, or take a chance—or two, in raffles for a wide range of goodies should visit the Gassaway Community Building between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday. A special Kids’ Corner will be set up for the children. Librarian Meredith Thomas gives credit for setting up the event to Friends of the Library. All proceeds will go to the Gassaway Public Library.

Several varieties of soup will be available, and those who choose to do so may vote for the most delicious. In addition to the soups, desserts, drinks, and crackers will be available. The soup is not covered by the $8.00 ticket price, but the ticket does cover entry and one raffle ticket, Raffle tickets cost $1 for a single ticket and $5 for six tickets. Twelve baskets, each with a different array of items, are being raffled.

A highlight of the event is meeting the authors and having the opportunity to purchase their books. Authors scheduled for the event include Andrea Lemon, Bonnie Rose Ward, Catherine Posey, Chelsea Queen, Hannah Linder, Leslee Stover, Lori Fontanez,  Lucy Gallegos-Johnson, Millie Shepherd, Rick Burrows, and Teddy Richardson. Librarian Thomas noted that spots are still open for the book-signing. Anyone who wishes to be included may contact the library.  All authors present will have copies of their books to sell. They will accept cash or checks but not credit cards. .

The Kids’ Corner will feature Super Bowl coloring sheets along with some coloring books.  The local group Strumm-a-long will provide live music for the two-hour event.

Those who have questions may check the Gassaway Public Library’s Facebook page or call the library. Tickets may be purchased at the library or from any Friend of the Library. Librarian Thomas noted that a limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
