Dr. Sarah Schimming joins WVU-BCMH Medical Staff

WVU Medicine Braxton County Memorial Hospital recently welcomed Sarah Schimming, D.O. to the physician staff at BCMH.

Dr. Schimming completed her undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech and completed her Doctor of Medicine from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA. It was during her residency that she met Braxton County native, Ted Zaras. The two married in May 2023. Having always had an interest in rural healthcare, Sarah was elated to be offered the opportunity to relocate to Braxton County and provide medical care to a small-town community.

Dr. Schimming, who is board certified in internal medicine, will be serving Braxton County residents in both an inpatient and outpatient capacities. She provides hospitalist care to patients who are admitted for an overnight stay at BCMH. She also serves as a primary care and internal medicine physician in the Braxton County Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic which is located on the hospital campus.

Having a dedicated internal medicine provider on site at the hospital to assume both inpatient and outpatient care responsibilities enhances the ability of our entire care team to provide quality care across the board. Dr. Schimming is excited for the opportunity to serve the residents of Braxton and surrounding counties. She and her husband enjoy hiking, kayaking, traveling and essentially anything outdoor related.
