Carol Anne Moore
Carol Anne Moore, age 82, of Evans, WV, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023.
Carol Anne was born in Arnoldsburg, WV on November 8, 1940 to Geraldine Vanhorn Hays and George Roessing Hays.
She was a 1959 graduate of Parkersburg High School and attended Glenville State College. She had a long career as a social worker in West Virginia and Virginia. Later in life, she was a dedicated caregiver for her aunt Dorothy Hays. She was an avid sports fan and was particularly passionate about the WVU Mountaineers, rarely missing a broadcast of their games.
Carol Anne was an adored mother, grandmother (Oma), sister and aunt. She is survived by her son Mike Moore (Michelle Brown), her daughter Lori Cutlip (Mike), her grandchildren, Molly Moore, Zoe Moore, Micah Anne Beane (Austin), Tanner Cutlip and soon to be born great grandson Emmett Michael Beane. She is also survived by her brothers, Robert ‘Butch’ Hays and Ross Hays, eleven nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Precious. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sisters Barbara Hays Henderson and Mary Katy Hays Porebski.
The family celebrated Carol Anne’s life during a memorial service on Saturday, October 21, at 11 am at the Clendenin Church of the Nazarene ~ 7554 Elk River Road Clendenin, WV 25045.

William Grant Ramsey
William Grant Ramsey, 82 of Summersville, passed away Friday October 13, 2023 in the CAMC Hospice Division. He was the son of the late Raymond and Dorothy Ramsey and was born in Clay County February 13, 1941. Bill was the owner of the Gassaway Dry Cleaners; he was a retired truck driver for Frito-Lay and part-time worker for Wal-Mart after his retirement. He was a member of the Alderson Baptist Church. Surviving: Wife, Annabelle Harrison Ramsey. Son: Daniel Ramsey (Becky) Weston. Daughters: Pam Lake (Rick) Hacker Valley, Donna Conrad (Donald) Flatwoods, Trisha Ramsey (Gregg McFarland) Hagerstown, Maryland, Penny Ramsey Charleston. Step-children: Steve Gross (Tina), Tim Gross (Lori), Daughters: Cindy (Steven) and Janie Burger (Joe). Twelve Grandchildren & 20 Great Grandchildren.
Whether it was preaching, delivering to stores with the Frito truck, or meeting new and old friends while working at Walmart, Bill made everyone he met feel special. He spread the gospel with his words and actions no matter where he was in life. He truly made every job into a blessing for himself and others. Bill raised gardens every year and shared with everyone. Bill and Annabelle made a family from two. They both welcomed their children and grandchildren with open arms. By loving each other, they created a bigger than life family. We will forever remember his heart, personality and love of God. I bet he is teaching the angels how to yodel now.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday October 16th in the Alderson Baptist Church at Craigsville with Pastor Samuel Luppino and Pastor Ed Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the WV Memorial Gardens at Calvin. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
The Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville is in charge of arrangements.

Wavalene Gay Fincham
Wavalene Gay Fincham, 72, of Sutton, WV passed away at home on October 18, 2023. She was born on May 8, 1951 in Exchange, WV to parents Carl Helmick and Freda Mae Hacker Helmick.
Wavalene was a lifelong resident of Braxton County, a Baptist by faith and attended Cutlip’s Baptist Church. She loved to cook, play cards, listen to bluegrass and country music, attend gospel sings, and go to yard and thrift sales. Wavalene loved flowers and working in the garden. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Franklin Fincham.
She is survived by her son; Scottie Fincham (Angie), daughter; Paula Harper (Michael), grandchildren; Jeffrey Hibbs, Jacob Hibbs, Lucas Hibbs, Paige Dilly, Brooke Fincham, Ashley Fincham and Haley Fincham, great-grandchildren; Gemma Hibbs, Jayse Hibbs, Sofia Hibbs, Zaylee Hibbs, Waylon Hibbs, Eriana Dilly, Alayah Dilly, and Olivia Dilly, brothers; Clinton “Pete” Helmick and Charles “Buck” Helmick.
Family will honor Wavalene’s wishes to be cremated. No services are planned at this time.

Berlin “Bo” Cutlip
Berlin “Bo” Cutlip, 84 of Webster Springs passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at CAMC Memorial. He was born November 9, 1938 in Mudlick to the late George Berlin and Nora Belle Hall Cutlip and was a United States Army Veteran
Bo was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Cowen; a New York Yankees Fan, and an avid reader. He loved wood-working, four-wheeling, and spending time with his family, including his siblings. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, and a member of the Diana Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Gerald Cutlip and sisters Gladys M. Cogar and Margaret Bullock.
Bo is survived by his loving wife Patty Armentrout Cutlip; son Darrell (fiancé Debbie) Cutlip; daughter Nora “Sis” (Kevin) Stout; grandson Parker Stout; brothers Charles (Judy) Cutlip, Roger (Ellouise) Cutlip, Junior Ralph (Kathy) Cutlip, and Larry (Loretta) Cutlip; sister Susan Skinner; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral Services to celebrate Bo’s life was held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Armentrout Family Cemetery, Diana. Friends joined the family for visitation two hours prior to service time at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Webster Addison Public Library 331 South Main Street, Webster Springs, WV 26288.

Lula G. Facemire
Lula G. Facemire, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Athens, Georgia. She was born in Braxton County, West Virginia on March 8, 1934 to the late Richard and Henrietta (Crites) Clifton.
Lula joined her true love in heaven, James “Sonny” Facemire, who died on October 12, 2014 and her eldest daughter, Victoria “Vickie” Bolton who died August 6, 2016. Lula is survived by her son, James Michael Facemire (Brenda Facemire) of Manassas, Virginia, her daughter, Martha Jane Babendreier (Justin Babendreier) of Athens, Georgia, seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Lula married James “Sonny” Facemire on February 26, 1955 in Sutton, West Virginia after a five year courtship. They built and created a loving home in Fairfax, Virginia in 1960.
Together, Sonny and Lula, enjoyed gardening and spending time in the Virgina and West Virginia mountains. They valued time spent with family, especially their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lula was known for her cooking and baking. She always welcomed the opportunity to gather family and friends and show love through her food. Lula was feisty and had a quick and witty sense of humor and loved a good laugh. She appreciated the simple things in life. Lula will be missed deeply by all whose lives she touched.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held on November 3, 2023 at 4:00pm at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Athens, Georgia.
Interment is planned for spring 2024 at the Braxton County Cemetery, Flatwoods, West Virginia.

Elder Mark C. Minney
Elder Mark C. Minney, 74, of Briery Lick, passed to Glory on Friday, October 13, 2023, at home in Perkins, WV.
He was born to Elder Rodney and Ora Minney on January 30, 1949, in Grantsville, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Arliss, Joey, Meredith and Connie.
Mark graduated from Normantown High School in Normantown. He married Marlene Williams on November 23, 1967, in Vermillion, Ohio, where he worked at the Ford Plant for three years. They moved back to WV and owned and operated a gas station for three years. He worked for Eureka Pipeline for 19 years and drove a school bus in Gilmer County for 20 years. He was a faithful pastor of Unity Baptist, Dessie Baptist and Steer Run Baptist Churches for over 40 years.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was faithful pastor and enjoyed spreading the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was the Editor of the Voice in the Wilderness paper for many years. He was devoted in mission work and helped organize and support churches in the Philippines.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Marlene Minney; three children, Mark II and wife, Kim and stepgranddaughter, Zoie, and Rodney and his wife, Bo, and Mark III; brother, Randy Minney; grandchildren, Hollie Moss, Kayla Minney, Brandi Lane and Samantha Minney; great grandchildren, Paityn, Bailee, Bentley, Taven, Ryleigh, Waylon, Bryder and Wyatt.
Elder Mark’s visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.
His graveside service will be 11 A.M. Wednesday, October 18th at the Miller Cemetery, Shock with Brother Norman Isenhart officiating.

William W. Huffman “Bill”
William W. Huffman “Bill” formerly of Charleston and Gassaway, WV passed away on September 13, 2023. Bill was born on June 1, 1944. He was predeceased by his parents Dr. William W. and Irene Huffman and his wife Karen Rutter Huffman who on October 11, 1989 succumbed to cancer and he was left to raise their four children: Amy Lewis (Ron), Rebecca Huffman, Cary Charbonniez (Pierre) and William Huffman (Jessica).
Bill met the love of his life, Karen, in the fall of his sophomore year at West Virginia Wesleyan College, and they married the following May. He and Karen worked together in Real Estate for many years purchasing, selling, appraising and renting out properties while raising a busy family.
Bill was active in politics, proudly serving many terms on Charleston City Council. He was happiest spending time in Braxton County, WV with friends and family at his hunting cabin, boating on Sutton Lake, camping, and attending Gassaway Days where he met up with old classmates and friends. In his free time, he enjoyed watching and playing golf, particularly with his son Will who he shared his love of golf with. Many early mornings before school he could be seen jogging with his daughter Amy, who loved to run, enthusiastically cheering her on. Bill was a skilled writer and hand wrote a regular weekly column for the Braxton Democrat lovingly edited by his daughter Rebecca. He would affectionately recall weekends spent taking kids to swim team practice. An activity his daughter Cary delightfully continues to enjoy. His children are grateful for the long history they had with their free-spirited father who always made life fun and entertaining.
Fondly left to remember Bill, in addition to his children, are his nine grandchildren (Mary Adeline, Fielding, Fisher and Sam Lewis; Charlotte Carey and Jack Mullen; Iris and Zoe Charbonniez; and James Huffman), one great grandchild, John Thomas Fielding Pitcock, sister Alice Ann Woodall, brother John Huffman (Vicky), several nieces, a nephew, and his wife Gloria.
A service will take place on November 4, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Gassaway United Methodist Church. A time for fellowship and remembrance will take place at the Elk River Hotel (located in Sutton, WV) immediately following the church service. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Robert Herbert Grace
Robert Herbert Grace, 84, of Sutton, went home to be with his Lord on October 16, 2023 at Clay Healthcare Center, Ivydale, WV.
He was born November 14, 1938 in Akron, OH, the son of the late Robert Clayton & Marjorie White Grace. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Daniel Grace; sister, Martha White.
Robert worked as a coal miner for many years, was a member of Burnsville Baptist Church and a Army Veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Violet Facemire Grace; son, Robert Grace, II (Cindy) of Poca, WV; brother, James C. Grace of Akron, OH; granddaughter, Makayla Grace.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the Greene-Robertson Funeral Home in Sutton with the Pastor Scott Posey officiating. Burial followed in the Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery, Sutton. Friends called from 11:30 till 1:00 pm at the funeral home.

Peggy Helen Barnett Crites
Peggy Helen Barnett Crites, 59, of Birch River, passed away on October 17, 2023, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
Peggy was born on October 22, 1963 in Summersville, WV the daughter of the late Russell & Janet Russell Barnett. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Ronald Crites; brothers, Thomas Barnett, Bobby Barnett.
She is survived by her sons, Chris Crites (Rana) of Birch River, Ronald Crites (Charlotte) of Erbacon; grandchildren, Christopher, Hailey, Traiton, Ezabella, Tyler, Gabriel.
Graveside services were held 11:00 am, Monday, October 23, 2022 at Birch River Cemetery, Birch River.

David Paul King
David Paul King, 77, of Birch River went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Peyton Hospice House, Lewisburg surrounded by his family.
He was born September 20, 1946, in Gassaway to the late John Wesley King and Gladys Ilene Brown King.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Louise Climer, Edith Dobbins, Jean Ross, Norma Hashman, Bill King, Estel Hughes, and Leonard King.
David was a Baptist by faith and in service to the Lord he was a Sunday School Teacher. He loved his community. He was an original member and instrumental in helping to start the Birch River Volunteer Fire Department in which later he served as Chief. David retired from Nicholas County Emergency Services as their Director. In his earlier years he was a Minor and Little League Baseball Coach. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 56 years, Janet Louise Climer; children, Joe King (Robin), and Kim Hypes (Joel); grandchildren, Paul McCoy (Lori), Sarah Cody (John), Rachel Mitchem (Jared), and Jessica King (Robbi); great-grandchildren, Taylor McCoy, Jacob McCoy, Mason Cody, Owen Cody, Greyson King, Adilynn Goodnight, and Vada Mitchem; siblings, Jim King (Loretta), Phyllis Jones, Nellie Lockhart, and Linda King.
David’s funeral will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday October 25, 2023, at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Reverend Linn Schiefer and Pastor Bob Mylott officiating.
Burial will follow at Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Elma Elizabeth Hannah “Mamaw Elma”
Elma Elizabeth Hannah “Mamaw Elma”, 79, of Duck, WV passed away suddenly at WVU Medicine Braxton County Memorial Hospital, Gassaway on Monday, October 16, 2023. She was born in Fola on June 9, 1944, to the late Emma Price Brown.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Mike, Porter and Elwood Brown; and her grandson, Jeremy Hannah.
Elma retired as a cook from Clay County Schools after 22 years of service. She was best known for her famous hot rolls. Her kitchen was always open and welcomed many friends and strangers throughout the years.
Left behind to cherish her memory is her husband of 62 years, James Hannah; siblings, Francis Nichols of Jodie, WV, Arthur Brown and Margaret (Arch) Rush both of Ohio; her children; Jeff (Diane) Hannah of West Salem, Ohio, Rick (Diane) Hannah of Clay, WV, Carol Hannah of Big Otter, WV, Karen (Mike) Boggs of Big Otter, WV and William (Jessica) Rogers of Duck, WV; grandchildren, Jimmy (Nancy) Boggs, Jake (Cindy) Boggs, Michelle (Josh) Blair, Ashley (Chad) Owens of Shinnston, Jenna Hannah of Glenville, Hunter (Hannah) Hannah of Clay, Samantha (Isaac) Ramsey of Clay, Hailey and Levi Rogers of Duck, and Josh and Amanda Calame of Shelby, Ohio; great grandchildren; Lexi, Phoenix, Savannah, Bailee, Jaxon, Jacob, Abraham, Abigail, Trenton, and McKenzie; special friends and neighbors, Cliff and Patricia Gillespie; many nieces, nephews, and extended family that will miss her.

Hayden Camden Cutlip
Hayden Camden Cutlip (71), of Birch River passed away on October 14, 2023 of natural causes. He was born in Sutton to George Hayden and Hazel Cutlip on March 13, 1952.
Hayden was a retired machinist. He loved his family and friends and could always be counted on to crack a joke or share a funny story. He was quick to help you with a project and enjoyed making furniture, cooking, working on cars and entertaining his beloved granddaughters.
A gifted singer and songwriter, Hayden has entertained thousands with his heartfelt songs about love and life and more often than not, could be found with a guitar in his hands.
Hayden was preceded in death by his parents, as well as siblings Emmit Cutlip, Homer Cutlip, Mason Cutlip, Eugene (Pat) Cutlip, Mona (Gene) Davis, Lona (Leroy) Crites, and Clarence “Pete” Cutlip.
He is survived by children, Yvonne Cutlip (Jim Malson), Keith H. (Cheryl) Cutlip, and Brent (Carolina) Cutlip, grandchildren Tristen Cutlip, Rachael Lutz, Ashley Lutz, Keona Paulsen, Ashlynn Cutlip and Riley Cutlip, and great-grandson TJ Cutlip, sisters Phyllis (Bob) Ellison, Cheryl (George) Geisweidt and Linda (Dorsey) Kelley, as well dozens of nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service will be held for the family at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home in Sutton, WV at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 29.

Nancy Jo Dupee
Nancy Jo Dupee, 87, of The Villages, FL, passed away on October 7, 2023. She was born on July 23, 1936, in Gassaway, WV, to the late Everett and Pauline Mick. She married her love Walter Dupee in 1957 and made their home together in Wheaton, MD. Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband and her siblings Wallace Mick, Dorothy (Dot) Barto, Betty Smailes, and Larry Mick.
Nancy was a loving mother to her son Jim Dupee and his wife Marie, and her daughter Pam (Cookie) Thorpe and her husband Mike. She adored her grandchildren Brian, Andrew (Ellen), Harlan, and Marissa, who will miss her deeply.
She attended Braxton County High School and later pursued her education at Charleston General School of Nursing in WV. Nancy had a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse and worked as a night nurse at Leisure World in Silver Spring, MD. She was known for her faithful attendance of many athletic events at Wheaton High School where her husband taught physical education and coached various sports.
After her husband’s retirement in 1998, they moved to The Villages, FL. Though she was initially reluctant, she grew to love it. She learned to play golf and described life there as “paradise,” wondering why anyone would ever want to leave.
Nancy was a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she found solace and community. Nancy was known for her love of people, music (especially country, gospel, and Elvis Presley), and clipping coupons. When she wasn’t scoring a bargain, Nancy enjoyed collecting teddy bears, participating in coffee groups, and attending music events on the square in the Villages of FL. She found joy in these hobbies and shared her enthusiasm with those around her.
Nancy will be remembered for her kind and loving nature, her zest for life, and her unwavering faith. She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of warmth and compassion. May she rest in eternal peace.
A memorial service will be held on October 26, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 17330 US-441, Summerfield, FL 34491. Nancy will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, located at 6502 S.W. 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513 at 1:30 p.m.

James Ellis Knight
James Ellis Knight, 88, of Sutton, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Beckley Healthcare Center, Beckley.
He was born January 25, 1935 in Sutton the son of the late Mack & Lena Wilson Knight. James grow up as one of ten siblings.
James was a Supply Clerk for United Coal Company, drove a bus for Braxton County Schools and was a Baptist Christian by faith. He enjoyed farming, being a bee keeper and playing the Guitar.
Left to cherish his memory is his sons, Michael Knight of Sutton, Herbert Knight of Sophia; daughter, Lisa Connant of Sutton.
Memorial graveside service will be held 1:00 pm, Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Poplar Ridge Cemetery, Sutton with Rev Russell Shaw officiating. There will be no visitation.

Larry W. Cutlip
Larry W. Cutlip, 73, of Exchange passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Ashland, Ohio on August 6, 1950.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary Tucker Cutlip and his brother, Tom Cutlip.
Larry enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed farming and cow whispering. He enjoyed watching all the famous western shows and Star Trek. Larry had a special bond with his great granddaughter, Ava, and the two of them spent much time together. He enjoyed watching her trail ride in person and watching her horse show videos. He had a great sense of humor and had an attention to detail. Larry was a retired federal mine inspector. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Shelia Cutlip; five sons, Scott Cutlip and wife, Dawn; Steve Cutlip and wife, Robin, Sean Cutlip, Kevin Cutlip and wife, Nancy, and James Cutlip and wife, Jessica; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his father, Harold Cutlip; brother, Dana Cutlip; sister, Cathy Edwards and husband, Bud; stepson, Randy Wood; stepdaughter, Brandy Asbury and husband, Chris; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services were held.
