Brooke Woods crowned Homecoming Queen

Jackson Short named King

Highlighting last Friday’s Eagles/Lincoln football game was Braxton County High School’s 53rd Homecoming Coronation. Brooke Woods and her escort for the evening Jaxson Short were ultimately bestowed the honor of being named 2022 BCHS Homecoming Queen and King.

Halftime festivities began with the introduction of the Homecoming Court. Freshmen princess Gracie Dyer lead the way. She is the daughter of Casey Dyer of Little Birch. Her escorted for the evening was fellow freshman Jamie Nettles, son of Matt Nettles and Allison Given-Nettles of Frametown.

Also representing the freshman class was Grace Harper, the daughter of Tim and Carrie Harper of Little Birch. She is escorted by Aidan Crockett, son of Johnny and Amy Crockett of Gassaway.

Alyssa Luzader headed up the sophomore class princesses. She is the daughter of Greg and Shannon Luzader of Sutton. Her escorted was Shawn Toler, son of Chris and Jennifer Toler of Sutton.

Also representing the sophomore class was Piper Tonkin. She is the daughter of Scott and Tonya Estep of Frametown. Her escorted Alex Steele, son of Bill and Gina Kammer of Duck.

Sienna Gwynn represented the junior class representative. She is the daughter of Brian and Connie Gwynn of Napier. Her escort was Nickolas Brown, son of Shane and Pamela Brown of Sutton.

Also representing the junior class was Mayson Shingler. She is the daughter of Hannah Shingler of Sutton. Her escort was Skylar Davis, son of Larry and Crystal Davis of Sutton.

The senior class, from which the Queen and King were selected included Ryleigh Groff, the daughter of Justin Groff and Danielle Bennett of Exchange. After graduation, Ryleigh plans to attend New River Community Technical College to pursue a career in trauma nursing. She was escorted Michael Tamburello, son of Michel and Debbie Marcum of Sutton. Michael is a barista at Starbucks. After graduation, he plans to attend Arizona State University as a nursing major.

Christyona Rhodes, the daughter of Marquita Harrison and John Rhodes of Sutton was also a senior attendant. She is a member of FBLA and participates in ESports. After high school, Christyona is attending West Virginia Junior College for Business Marketing and Human Resources. Her escort was Tyler Cox. He is the son of Bryan and Flora Cox of Sutton. Tyler is a member of the BCHS football and wrestling teams. After graduation, Tyler plans to go to college and study Engineering.

Brooke Wood is the daughter of Jon and Kristy Wood of Gassaway. Brooke is a student council member and this year’s yearbook editor. After graduation, Brooke plans to attend to WVU to be a Dental Hygienist. Her escort was Jaxson Short, son of Nathan and April Short of Frametown. He is a member of the school’s football and basketball teams. After graduation, Jaxson plans to either go to a trade school or go to work as a journeyman electrician.

This year’s flower girl was Logan Helmick, daughter of Matt and Mackenzie Helmick of Exchange. The crown bearer was Bryce Gregory, son of Eric and Macy Gregory of Sutton.

King Jaxson was crowned by Assistant Principal Lori Stover-Williams.  Queen Brooke received her crown from 2021 Homecoming Queen, Mazzy King. She was presented with flowers and the traditional green Braxton Homecoming cloak by Principal Tony Minney.
