Nelva Orlean Squires, 94, of Sutton, WV passed away on March 2, 2022 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. She resided most of her life in Flatwoods, WV. Nelva was born on October 23, 1927 in Sutton, WV to parents Isaac and Alice Frame Gregory. She was preceded in death by her parents; Husband: Richard Harold Squires; Sons: Richard Allen Squires and Roger Leo Squires; Brothers: Hugh, Harley, Albert, Austin and Dana Gregory; Sisters: Retha Spaur, Hatty Gillespie, Mae Harris, Marjorie Bickle, and Evelyn Davis; Son-in-law Brant Butcher.
Nelva was a devout Christian and attended Stone Run United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Onward Homemakers Club. Nelva loved to cook and worked as a substitute cook for the Braxton County Board of Education.
Those left to cherish her memories are Son: Tim Squires (Peggy), Daughter: Linda Butcher; Grandchildren: Connie Squires, Stuart Squires and Lisa Mitchell; Great Granddaughter: Katie Mitchell, Daughter-in-law: Dorothy Squires.
Service were held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Stockert Funeral Home & Cremation, Flatwoods, WV. Friends called two hours prior to the service from 11:00-1:00 pm. Pastor Ryan Skidmore officiated the service. Interment followed the service at High Knob Cemetery.

Waunita Mae Fisher Brown age 85 of Weston, formerly of Hacker Valley passed away Friday, February 25, 2022. Waunita was born May 15, 1936 on Lower Lick Run and was the daughter of the late Lester and Fanny Moats Fisher. Along with her parents she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Clarence Brown; two sisters, Dessie Anderson and Joan Simmons; brother, Buck Fisher; son-in-law Herb Bender; and grandson, James Bender, Sr.
Waunita was a Christian by faith. She enjoyed crafts, flowers, going to church, attending gospel sings and most of all loved spending time with her family.
Surviving are her children; Leonard (Susan) Brown of Cleveland, Betty Bender of Belington, Susan (Leon) McKinney of Craigsville, Harvey (Veronica) Brown of Weston, Nelson (Bobbie Jo) Brown of Crawford and Gary (Cyndy) Brown of Cleveland; adopted daughter, Kathy Ellis; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; sisters, Mable Hamrick and Hazel Fisher; brother, Sonny (Marilyn) Fisher; many nieces, nephews and extended family members who will truly miss her.
Service was 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Dodd and Reed Funeral Home Webster Springs with her son in law, Pastor Leon McKinney officiating. Burial followed at Ware Cemetery, Hacker Valley.
Friends joined the family for visitation 6 -9 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Billy Joe Utt, 55, of Sutton, WV passed away at his home on February 23, 2022.
He was born March 5, 1966, the son of, Henry ‘Tiny’ Utt and the late Hollian Kelley Utt.
Billy loved to work and spent 30 years working for Crites Construction.
Left to cherish his memory is his father, Henry ‘Tiny’ Utt, son, Ryan Utt (Olivia Hamner) of Buckhannon, daughter, Morgan Utt of Summersville, ex-wife, Meredith Utt James of Summersville, brothers, Henry Utt and Johnny Utt (Cindy) both of Sutton, sisters, Sandy Payne, Karen McCourt, Joyce Goad (Mike) all of Sutton.
Memorial services was held in his honor Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton.

John Kline Shaffer “Pap”, 74, was born October 10, 1947 in Waneta, Point Mountain, Webster County, WV to the late Harold and Alma Shaffer. John was a man of faith and went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 25, 2022.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters Betty Tucker and Wanda McCloud.
John is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Nancy L. Shaffer of Bergoo; his sons, John K. Shaffer Jr. “JJ” and his fiancé Peggy of Tunnelton and Donnie Shaffer and Ashley of Bergoo; step-daughters Tonja and Jerry Hamrick of Bergoo Road in Webster Springs and Missy and George Hartsell of Arthurdale; step-sons, Terry and Kerrie Knotts and Gary and Cathy Knotts, both of Kingwood, and Will and Alesia Lake of PA; special foster sons, Michael, Liam, and Noah McCourt, all of Webster Springs; siblings, Joy and Don Drew, Don and Janet Shaffer, Rachel and Butch Zinn, Alan Shaffer, Steve and Beverly Shaffer, and two others; and many extended family and friends.
John was lovingly known as Pap and Papa John by his 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
John moved back to Webster County in 2006 where he and Nancy opened Pap’s Sport Shop. For these 16 years he has lovingly served the community of Webster Springs. He had a passion to help the community and often did so by giving graciously and never expected any payment in return. He was truly loved by many customers and friends and they all called him Pap. Pap’s store was much more than a sport shop. At any given day you could find a gathering of men or women talking about God. Pap loved the Lord and he shared that love freely with any and all that would listen. Pap loved everyone and he had in his heart a special place for Melvin Green of Webster Springs who helped him at the store.
John “Pap” Shaffer will be missed by the community of Webster Springs. Thank you for supporting the store and our family all of these years.
Pap, tell Bill Triplett it’s my birthday! Love, your #1 daughter.

Carolyn Sue (Hoover) Maul, 65, of Craigsville passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, February 25, 2022.
Sue was born on April 10, 1956 in Richwood, and raised in Cowen until she was 13. She then moved with her family to Tampa, FL where she resided for 46 years. She returned in 2015 to reunite with her high school sweetheart.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Kathleen Hoover; grandson, Kristopher Maul; and sister, Debbie Paugh.
She is survived by her husband and sweetheart, Otis “Glen” Maul of Craigsville; the light of her life, her grandson, Dakota “Cody” Bassett; her children: Timothy Sargent (Dee), Theresa Bassett (Adam), Kerstin Delawder, and Terry Maul (Robin); grandchildren: Sarah Tallerito, Andrue Maul, Kaitlyn Combs, Kaylana Combs, Kameron Maul, Khloey Maul, Renee Good, Tonya Delawder, and Brandi Delawder; siblings and siblings-in-law: Gidget Canada (Teddy), Sherry Lynn, Anna Paugh, Rosemary Balencia, Roger Maul, David Maul, and Douglas Maul; close friends, Jennifer Seabolt and Amy Hamrick (Brett); and many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her, and whom will miss her dearly.
A memorial service was scheduled for 5PM, Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Adams-Reed Funeral Home, Cowen. Friends joined the family for visitation two hours prior to service time at the Funeral Home.

Charles David Rose Sr., 90, of Birch River passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022at Webster Nursing Home in Cowen, WV.
He was born December 28, 1931 to the late Lanty Clarence Rose and Mary Macel Jackson Rose, in Little Birch, WV. He is also preceded in death by brothers, Ray and Gale Rose, sister, Audrey Thayer
Charles was a Christian by faith attending Rose Hill Methodist Church. He was a former timber man and farmer. Charles enjoyed cards, checkers, farming, wrestling, and was a loving husband and father.
He leaves behind his wife of 61, Ada Irene Rose, sons Charles “Charley” Rose Jr. of Charleston, James “Jim” Rose (Cindy) of Sutton, daughter, Priscilla Jamison (Rodney) of Birch River, brothers, Gene Rose and Tom Rose, sisters, Patti, Caron, Sharron, Judy, and Clara Mae, and his cherished dog Lucy
Graveside services were held at 3:00 pm on Sunday March 6, 2022 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Erbacon Road, Birch River, WV with speaker Johnny Long and Pastor Rodney Jamison officiating.

Shirley Ann Miller Flint, 75, of Gassaway, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 26, 2022.
She was born January 28, 1947 in Gassaway to the late Clarence and Daisy Wood Miller.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her grandson, Ethen Tyler Flint; sisters, Emily Woods, Caroline Wilson, and Melida Mick.
Shirley’s family was her pride and joy and she loved them unconditionally. She raised three of her own children while helping her husband run and operate their family owned construction company and several other successful businesses. Shirley was an artist that delved into different mediums of art. Her oil paintings were displayed and sold in art galleries and her crochet work won many awards. She enjoyed planting and harvesting her garden in her backyard. Shirley was a member of Gassaway Baptist Church. Friends became family along the way at Shirley’s house. Her beautiful smile and her love of laughter and fun are sure to be missed. She was a special matriarch who leaves behind a wonderful legacy.
Left to remember her memories are her husband of 57+ years, Roger Flint; sons, Rob Flint and wife, Melinda, Jamie Flint and wife, Katie; daughter, Lori Pritt and husband, Rodney; grandchildren, Montana Hoover and husband, Ethan, Christian Pritt and wife, Beth, Tessa Pritt, Hailey Flint, Raegan Flint, Aubree Flint, Drew Pritt, and Jesse Flint; great-grandchildren, Grai Herron and Lincoln Arnold; sisters, Kay Thorne and Marylin Miller; brother, Danny Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with her wishes she will be cremated.
Her memorial service was 1 P.M. Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Reverend Johnny Conrad officiating.
A gathering of family and friends was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Elsie Faye Shreves, 82, of Gassaway, formerly of Clarksburg, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Braxton Health Care Center, Sutton.
She was born in Roane County on July 26, 1939 to the late James Isaiah Martin and Vernie Wagner Martin.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arlos Leon Shreves and twin sister, Delcie Lipscomb.
Elsie worked in Harrison County at the Senior Center and at the Bicounty Nutritional Center as a cook. When she lived in Clarksburg she attended the Upper Room Church, Adamston, but most recently she was a member of the Mid State Church of God, Gassaway. She loved church. In her spare time she did puzzle books and watched gospel programs on TV. She will be missed.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Bill Shreves and wife, Jeanette, of Frametown and David Shreves and wife, Vanessa, of Shinnston; grandson, William Lee Shreves of Gassaway; sister in law, Cindy Bender, of Heaters; niece, Becky Sawitski and husband, Gary, of Grafton; and nephews, Daniel Lipscomb and fiancée, Makeiska Harris, of Grafton, Eric Linger of Exchange, and Joshua Linger and wife, Rachel, of Exchange.
In keeping with Elsie’s wishes she was cremated.
Elsie’s memorial service will be 12 Noon Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Pastor Rodney England officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
