Government, The Braxton Democrat

Legislative Update… By Lori Dittman WV House of Delegates 63rd District

Congratulations to the new West Virginia AA Girls Cross Country Champions, the Braxton County Girls Cross Country Team. Your dedication and determination certainly paid off! Those young ladies work just as hard in the classroom too! Way to build a winning team.
“If my mind can think it, my heart can believe it – then I can achieve it.” (Muhammad Ali)
Congratulations to Nick Cox of Gilmer County who has been selected to receive the Honorary American FFA Degree for his outstanding contributions in the lives of students and inspiring future generations to pursue agriculture. Well done!
On a personal note, The Pipestem Pumpkin Run in Summers County brought my quest to run in all 55 counties to a close. I am so thankful and praise God that I was able to finish. The last year of running has been riddled with knee issues from the beginning of osteoarthritis, however, I pressed on. I have enjoyed traveling the state, seeing places that I may never have visited if I had not intentionally decided to run the Mountain State all the while meeting wonderful people in many communities.
Will and I also completed the Waterfall Trail, which was its own beautiful adventure. Residents of West Virginia make up 37 percent of check-ins on the West Virginia Waterfall Trail, while visitors from outside the state account for 63 percent of the trail’s popularity. Visitors from 49 states and 23 countries have used the trail, which has 40 sites spread out around the state.
Also, noted in an article from West Virginia Explorer Magazine, West Virginia is growing in popularity for fall foliage destinations. As West Virginians, we have known this for ages, now those outside of the state are discovering the charm and beauty that is “Almost Heaven.”
Trick or Treat was held in locations all over the district this past weekend. I hope everyone had a wonderful time. I’ve seen many photographs of children and adults dressed up and enjoying the fun. Thank
you to all who worked to organize events and to everyone who participated by handing out goodies to the trick or treaters.
Just a reminder to everyone that the time changes on Sunday, November 5th. We get to fall back and gain an hour!
I look forward to hearing from people in the district and hope to see you out and about enjoying all the great things our area has to offer. I can be contacted at lori.dittman @wvhouse.gov or 304-701-8600.
