Municipal Spay Days Moves to Flatwoods/Burnsville

Following the success of community-based feline spay/neuter days in Gassaway and Sutton in recent weeks, Just One Generation cat rescue is now looking to offer residents in the Flatwoods and Burnsville areas an opportunity to do the same. Program director, Sally Stewart, explains that the organization’s spay and neuter assistance program that works with the Central WV Animal Hospital in Gassaway is on-going. However, demand for those services at a time when many cats are either pregnant or in heat, exceeds the number of available appointments at the local facility. “We understand there are residents anxious to have their pets sterilized before the litters start to arrive. But transportation outside the county is difficult for some, so we are attempting to make low-cost services available to all by providing transportation to and from the FixEm Clinic in Charleston from designated drop off/pick-up areas within the community.”
The cost of the service is $30 for male cats and $35 for females, and includes the spay/neuter, a one-year rabies vaccination, and round-trip transportation to the Charleston facility. Individuals who receive any state or federal assistance, such as food stamps, disability income, or CHIPs, may be eligible to have up to two of their cats sterilized at no cost, thanks to a matching grant provided by the WV Dept. of Agriculture. The Flatwoods Spay Day is scheduled for Tuesday, June 6, and the drop off and pick up point will be in the parking lot of the high school. Drop offs are scheduled between 6:30am-7am, with pick up that evening estimated to be 5pm- 5:30pm. The Burnsville Spay Day is Monday, June 26 with the drop off and pick up point at the Burnsville Public Library during the same hours. Due to staff reduction at the FixEm Clinic, we are only able to schedule a limited number of cats. Registration will be done on a first-come basis with those living in Braxton Co. closest to the sites having priority. A detailed information sheet will be mailed to those who register. No more than two cats per household can be registered.
