County Commission Receives Grant for Sugar Creek PSD

Near the conclusion of a very brief Braxton County Commission meeting last Friday, September 15, President Lisa Godwin stated that the County has received a $10,000 grant from the State of West Virgnia. Those funds are earmarked for the Sugar Creek PSD. Godwin explained that Delegate Brent Boggs initially solicited the fund to help the local Public Service District pay for an expansion project. When Boggs chose not to seek re-election, he passed the torch to Delegate Lori Dittman who persevered in securing the grant funds. A check for that money was recently presented to the county who will administer the grant.
The meeting began at 9:00 a.m. with Marie Lockard, Director of Braxton County Testing Services presenting her agency’s August’s monthly activity report to the Commissioners. That report revealed that the agency had performed 248 drug screenings during the period.
Reports were also presented by EMS Director Tiffany Prior and on behalf of OES/9-1-1 Director John Hoffman.
Kim Craft addressed the Commission regarding the Cheryl Jackson estate. She stated that she had spent a considerable amount of personal money attempting to get the estate settled. She explained that the problem was that some parties involved were refusing to comply with a previously issued Commission order in the case. Craft requested that the Commission “stand behind and enforce” their order. Tammy Facemire, BC Fiduciary Supervisor also spoke to the Commission about the matter. She suggested the Commission have the Prosecuting Attorney look into the case. That action was taken on a motion by Larry Clifton.
In other action, the Short Form Settlements for the following were approved as presented: James R. Buchanan, Terry James Carr, Ronald Lee Davis, Carl Dotson Dodrill Sr., Paul L. Frame, Markham Keith Gregory, Raymond E. Huffman, Sarah Bell Knight, Donny Long, Charles Frederick Mowery, Austin Glen Nicholas, and Calvin Earnest Williams.
Separate motions by Larry Clifton approved the application for correction of erroneous assessments for Jill Cottrill and Linday Sperrey (Brady) & Klewellyn and a request to consolidate contiguous tracts of land for tax purposes for Tim and Ronnie Teter.
Following a brief discussion, Larry Clifton made a motion to rent a dumpster to aid in cleaning up the Commission’s Property at 402 Riverview Drive.
Invoices for the county and EMS were approved for payment.
The minutes of the Commission’s regular meeting on September 1 were approved as presented by the County Clerk.
The meeting adjourned at 9:16 a.m. The next regular meeting of the Braxton County Commission will convene at 9:00 a.m. on October 6.
