Members of the Sutton Detachment of the West Virginia State Police were summoned to a Stone Run residence in Flatwoods on Sunday, February 18. The initial report indicated that there was a domestic dispute between juveniles and adults in the home.
Cpl. J.D. Jordan II responded. Upon arrival, his investigation revealed that David Michael Tinney, 59, had gotten into an argument with two juveniles. During that confrontation Tinney swung a knife at one of the victims causing injury to their thumbs and one finger.
Cpl. Jordan obtained written and video statements from one of the minors which lead to the arrest of Tinney. He was charged with child abuse causing serious injury and malicious assault, both felonies.
The victim was taken to a local medical facility where they received stitches in their thumbs before being released.
Tinney as arraigned on the charge against him before Magistrate David Singleton on Monday. He was lodged in the Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond to await additional court appearances. The accused was still incarcerated at press time.
