Stockert Funeral Home reopens under new ownership

By Shirley Shuman
After being closed for some time, an establishment familiar to area residents for decades recently reopened under new ownership. Keith Dancy and Quin Meador are now operating Stockert Funeral Home and Cremation in Flatwoods,
Both men are lifetime residents of the county and therefore familiar with its residents and their needs. Dancy is well-known as a longtime business owner in the area. Meador, a licensed apprentice with the West Virginia Funeral Service Examiners, is completing online work with the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.
Meador has previous experience in other counties. As an apprentice, he is under the direction of Morgan Mayfield, Stockert’s licensed funeral director in charge, according to Lana Dancy. Mayfield has been in the funeral home business for over forty years.
Meador noted that the business is a two-family establishment operated by Dancy and his wife Lana along with Meador and his brother Seth. He referred to the business as being “a staple in the community for years” and gave that as one of their reasons for the decision to buy and operate the funeral home.
Stockert Funeral Home and Cremation is located at 378 Flatwoods Corner Road in Flatwoods. A spokesperson for the owners said the mission of the establishment is “to provide your family with excellent customer service, ensure attention to detail, and provide you with peace of mind in your time of need.”
