Board of Ed Approves Personnel Changes

The Braxton County Board of Education conducted a special meeting on April 24 following personnel hearings on RIFs and transfers.
The meeting was called to order at 7:42 pm. The first item on the agenda was the approval of the 2025-2026 staff realignment plan (Reduction-In-Force/Transfer Plan). The plan was approved on a motion by Dr. Kenna Seal and included the following staff changes: Central Office/Itinerant-Professional: Eliminate One Itinerant Special Education Position-Terminate the contract Tiffany Adams and place her on Preferred Recall; Eliminate Two Pre K Family Service Providers-Transfer Jessica Porto to 1st Grade, Flatwoods and Terminate contract of Lisa Legg and place her on Preferred Recall; Eliminate Pre K Coordinator-Transfer Leigh Ann Meadows to PE/Planning Teacher, Little Birch; Service: Eliminate Itinerant Custodian-Place Mary Dennison on Transfer; Burnsville-Professional: Terminate the contract of Shane Moats and place him Preferred Recall; Service: Eliminate Kindergarten ECCAT-Reassign April Garrett to PK at Burnsville and Place Addi Facemire on Transfer; Eliminate Pre K ECCAT-Place Shaina Shaver on Transfer; Permission to post and hire one Elementary ECCAT; Davis-Eliminate One Pre K Classroom Teacher-Terminate the Contract of Rebecca Oates and place her on Preferred Recall; Eliminate One Special Education Position-Transfer Caroline Tinnel to PE/Planning at Sutton; Eliminate Vacant Title I position; Service: Eliminate one Pre-K ECCAT-Place Sherryl Wayne on transfer; Permission to post and hire one Elementary ECCAT; Flatwoods-Terminate the contract of Chloe Frame and place her on Preferred Recall; Service: Place Christina McCourt on Transfer; Eliminate Vacant Kindergarten ECCAT; Eliminate Special Education Assistant Teacher-Terminate the Contract of Andrea McCourt and place her on Preferred Recall; Terminate the Contract of Misty Williams and place her on Preferred Recall; Permission to post and hire one Elementary ECCAT; Frametown-Eliminate Title I Position-Transfer Melissa Dittman to 1st Grade at Frametown and Transfer Adison Wood to 5th Grade at Burnsville; Service: Eliminate Kindergarten ECCAT-Terminate the Contract of Cindy Stewart and place her on Preferred Recall; Terminate the Contract of Misty Jackson and place her on Preferred Recall; Permission to Post and Hire Elementary ECCAT; Little Birch-Eliminate the Title I Position-Transfer Pam Duffield to 3rd Grade at Little Birch and Transfer Tracy Carr to 4th Grade at Sutton; Terminate the contract of Kristen Andersen and place on Preferred Recall; Service: Eliminate Kindergarten ECCAT- Reassign Michelle Jackson to Elementary ECCAT at Little Birch and Place Nicole Brooks on transfer; Sutton-Eliminate Vacant Overflow Position; Eliminate Special Education (Self Contained) Position-Terminate the Contract of Preston Hamrick; Eliminate Vacant Pre K Classroom Teacher Position; Terminate the contract of Emily White and place her on Preferred Recall; Terminate the contract of Kassidy Dobbins and place her on Preferred Recall; Service: Eliminate one Pre-K ECAAT-Reassign Sheffie Jagielski to Grade Level ECCAT at Sutton; Place Morgan Shingler on transfer; Eliminate one Itinerant Transportation/Instructional/Supervisory Special Education Aide position-Terminate the contract of Chesney Brown and place her on Preferred Recall; Permission to post and hire an Elementary ECCAT; BCMS-Service: Terminate the contract of Folondi Shaver and place her on Preferred Recall; Terminate the contract of Robert Moffatt and place him on Preferred Recall; BCHS-Eliminate Vacant Assistant Principal Position; Eliminate Vacant CTE (GYO/Human Services); Eliminate Two Vacant Math/Science Positions; Service: Terminate the contract of Breann Baultrippe and place her on Preferred Recall; Eliminate one Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide; Permission to post and hire Autism Mentor/Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide; and Transportation-Eliminate the bus route vacated by Nathan Putnam; Eliminate the bus route currently operated by Matt Pitcock and place him on transfer; and Terminate the contract of Chris Wriston and place him on Preferred Recall.
On a motion by Lisa Ratliff, the board approved the following probationary and continuing contract renewals for the 2025-26 school year. Service Recommendations: Probationary Personnel Renewals-The following service personnel were employed for less than 133 days for the 2024 – 2025 school term. They are being recommended to have their contract updated for the 2025 – 2026 school term to a Second-First Probationary Contract-Andrew Green. The following service personnel are being recommended to have their First contract updated for the 2025 – 2026 school term to a Second Probationary Contract-Lisa Chenoweth, Kimberly Heater, Leanna Blankenship, Alicia White, Tiffany McCumbers, Heather Frame, Holly Poling, Timber Thebes, Morgan Shingler, Teresa Brown, Cassi Bailey, Sherryl Wayne, Christine McCourt, and Terry Green. The following service personnel are being recommended to have their Second contract updated for the 2025 – 2026 school term to a Third Probationary Contract-Rodney Gillespie, Zendria Butcher, Nicole Brooks, and Kevin Armentrout. The following service personnel are being recommended to have their Third contract updated for the 2025 – 2026 school term to a Continuing Contract-Robert Mitchell, Chelsea Hosey, Sherry Moats, Emily Oates, Addi Facemire, and Steven Brown.
Professional Recommendations: Probationary Personnel Renewals-The following professional personnel were employed for less than 133 days for the 2024 – 2025 school term. They are being recommended to have their contract updated for the 2025 – 2026 school term to a Second-First Probationary Contract provided that all certification requirements have been met- Jeremy Cantrell, Julianna Rexroad, and Jamie L. Ransbottom. The following professional personnel are being recommended to have their contract updated for the 2025 – 2026 school term to a Second Probationary Contract provided that all certification requirements have been met- Chloe Walker, Caroline Tinnel, Erica Whitney, Cherlyn McCourt, Erica Samples, Charles Murphy, William Lyons, Andrew Wood, Kelli Grose, Kathryn Singleton, and Alyssa Hamilton. The following professional personnel are being recommended to have their contract updated for the 2025 – 2026 school term to a Third Probationary Contract provided that all certification requirements have been met- Adison Woods, Sara Moore, Wesley Spencer, Clifton Long, Ashley Given, Tyler Cunningham, Andrew Shingler, Mary Shamburg, Tracy Carr, Jessica Smarr, and Jessica Porto. The following professional personnel are being recommended to have their contract updated for the 2025 – 2026 school term to a Continuing Contract provided that all certification requirements have been met-Kerri Lemon, John McElwain, Zachary Cyriacks, April Boyce Ramsey, Sheran Helmick, Lindsey Morris, Aaron Chenoweth, Chance McTaggert, Cody Dobbins, and Nathanial Perry.
The board conducted an executive session from 7:54 pm to 8:18 pm before approving the following personnel recommendations on action led by Dr. Kenna Seal: resignations of Carol Young, special education teacher, BC Alternative Education Placement and Nathan Putnam, bus operator-bus 37A; employment of Forrest “Drew” Taylor, special education teacher, BCMS, Nicole Jarrell, substitute cook, Iris Fowler, long term substitute bus operator-bus 37A, and Jeff Skidmore, long term substitute bus operator-bus 38A; and leave request for Addi Facemire, ECCAT/Aide, Burnsville, for the remainder of the school year using Family Medical and unpaid leave.
Board members thanked the staff including Superintendent Dr. Donna Burge-Tetrick and Director of Legal Services Melissa Adkins for the dedication and work during the RIF/transfer process.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:22 pm. The next regular meeting will be May 6 at 6:00 pm at the board office.
