Rain and a lightning delay did not dampen the determination of the Knights’ track teams at Oak Hill last week. Both the boys’ and the girls’ teams finished second with and each had event champions.
Ira Ransbottom finished first in the 800, the 1600 and the 3200 meter runs to pace the boys. Laila Pierson won both the 100 and the 200-meter hurdles, Emily Short placed first in both the shot put and the discus throw, and Lydia Gerwig took first in the 400 m. dash. Girls’ relay teams who won included the shuttle hurdle and the 4X400.
Other boys who won their events included Josh Hoover in the100 m. hurdles, and Owen Short the shot put. The boys’ shuttle hurdle relay team and the 4X400 relay team also finished in first place.
Second-place medalists for the boys’ team were Noah Spaulding in the 800-meter run, Jonathan Rich in both the 1600 and the 3200 m. run, and Mason Smarr in the 200 m. hurdles. Earning third-place finishes were Spaulding in the 100 and 400 m. dashes, the 4X200 m. relay team, the Braxton B 4X400 m. team, and Max Clemento in the discus throw.
For the girls’ team, Adeline Lowther finished second in the 100 m. dash, Laila Pierson placed second in the long jump, and the 4X200 relay team took second.
Coach Ezra Lewis commented on the meet and his teams’ accomplishments. “We had a few athletes out for both boys and girls. Then, add battling rain all day and even a lightning delay. We were proud of the team pushing forward and coming away with second place in both divisions,” he said.
