Lady Knights Win High-Scoring Game Against Doddridge County

Last Monday evening, the Lady Knights dominated Doddridge 23-11 on Braxton’s home field. The home team fell behind early in the game as Doddridge scored seven runs in the first inning, but the Lady Knights came back in the bottom of the inning with eight runs and the lead. Coach Shannon Rhodes declared, “They never slowed down from there.”
Braxton’s offense included 33 hits coming from the bats of 9 players. Two players—Leah Rader and Kenza Shaver hit inside-the-park home runs. Rader led the scoring at 5 for 5 for the game. Others following Rader’s lead were Bella Blake, 4 for 4, Breanna Hoard 4 for 4, and Emily Jarrell also 4 for 4. Rader scored four runs, Blake 3, Hoard 3, and Jarrell 3.
Grace Facemire went 3 for 5 with one run, Maddie Hawkins was 4 for 5 with three runs, Kenzlea Shaver was 3 for 4 with three runs.. Emily Wilson and Holley Johnson were both 3 for 4. Wilson scored two runs and Johnson one.
Starting on the mound for the Lady Knights, Facemire gave up seven runs in the first inning. Shaver relieved Facemire late in the first. She allowed four runs in the remainder of the game and recorded seven strikeouts.
“We are super proud of these girls,” Coach Rhodes emphasized. “Tina [Johnson] and I always knew they had it in them, and they finally showed their talent and put it to work. We are hoping this huge victory will boost the girls’ confidence, and they’ll continue this momentum the rest of this week into conference lay next week.”
