One of the first items of business at last Friday’s Braxton County Commission meeting was proclaiming the week of April 13-19 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Braxton County. The request came from 9-1-1 Director Tyler Long and was approved on a motion by Larry Clifton.
First to address the Commission was EMS Director Tiffany Prior. She presented the body with a report of activities for her agency for the month of March. She also requested permission to hire Franklin Bennett as a part-time paramedic effective April 18. Bennett will be paid $18.50 per hour with no county benefits and serve a 90-day probationary period. The request was approved
Captain Bryce Scarboro represented Sheriff Eddie Williams in presenting the contract between the county and the US Army Corps of Engineers for patrolling the recreational areas in the county. Following a brief explanation the Commission approved the agreement.
The Commission approved the short form settlements as submitted by the Fiduciary Supervisor for the following: James Mancel Cook, Irvan James Cottrill, Russell A. Facemire, Nancy Dell King, Edith Gay Knight, Mary Rosalie Nottingham, and Rodney Earl Steorts Sr.
They also approved an application for correction of erroneous assessment for Vickie Key and a consolidation of contiguous tracts of land for tax purposes for Phil and Mary Catherine Shuman.
Four purchase orders came before the Commission for consideration. All were approved. The Sheriff’s Tax Office will purchase envelopes and receipt paper from Safeguard for $1,424.58; The county 9-1-1 center will pay $1,100 in NexTEST Fees to the WV Enhanced 9-1-1 Council. Johnson Controls Fire Protection will conduct 5-year testing on the county’s sprinkler systems at a cost of $945.71; GST will provide four LCD monitors for the prosecuting attorney’s office at a cost of $1,236.78.
Brent Boggs made a motion to reallocate FOHO Grant funds to the septic tank project.
It was also Commissioner Boggs who introduced action to pay half of $15,658.26 to install an emergency backup waterline system at the Hospital.
The Commission agreed to allow the 9-1-1 Center to purchase updated APCO guide cards and software.
The county will again pay half of the basic fee at the Rotary Blood Screening for any county employee wishing to take advantage of the low cost testing.
The Commission approved the renewal of the proposal for insurance through WVcorp.
Larry Clifton made a motion to approve the use of the P-Card to pay registration fees for the WV Association of County Commissioners meeting at Stonewall Resort June 9-10.
Following a discussion, the Commission unanimously agreed to change the billing agent for Braxton EMS.
The Commission set a hearing regarding the request to change executors in the estate of Halman Nettles for May 15 at 10:00 a.m.
The final actions came via two motion to pay the county and EMS bills as presented and approve the minutes of the Commission’s April 4 and 15th meetings.
Being no further action to consider, the meeting adjourned at 9:50 a.m. The next regular meeting of the Braxton County Commission will convene on May 2 at 9:00 a.m.
