Adam Cosner knows what he wants to do in life, and reaching that decision came as he fully realized his love of music and the need to share it. He explained, “The most pivotal point in my high school career was when I finally realized what it was that I wanted to do for a career. I have always loved music, and it has helped me through some of the most challenging moments in my life. When I realized the impact music had on me, I wanted to share it with others, and that led me to wanting to become a music teacher.” He added, “This realization gives me the drive to keep working and learning to become a better person and teacher so that I can help others.”
To prepare for his career, the son of Frederick and Priscilla Cosner will attend Marshall University. He chose Marshall because “it is convenient, and I always enjoy being there. They also have a great music program.” At Marshall, Cosner plans to study music education to prepare for a career as a band director so he can share his love of music.
Cosner has been drum major for the BCHS band for three years. He also plays the trumpet and has been selected for several Honor Bands during the school year. In addition, he is a member of the student council, the local chapter of the National Honor Society, and is involved with Grow Your Own Pathway associates. Outside of school, he works as a server at Shoney’s Restaurant.
Asked to choose his favorite teacher, Cosner named Janis Collins. “She’s one of the most caring teachers, and she relates to students not only academically but also emotionally,” he said. College English, A Survey of British Literature, is his favorite class because, he noted, “We get really into philosophies and how they’re developed.”
