Carol Ann Arthur
Carol Ann Arthur, 79 of Webster Springs, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at her home. She was born October 15, 1945 in Webster Springs to the late William Coulter and Genevieve Baker Arthur and was a lifelong resident of Webster County.
She was known for always speaking her mind and having a strong will. She was very independent and did not like to ask for help. She would “adopt the young’ins” in the community, who weren’t always so young, and spoil them with her cooking. She would just call you when the meatloaf, macaroni salad, and hot dogs and chili were ready.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Earl, Virgil, Wayne, Wesley, and Edward Arthur; and sisters: Macel Jean Burger and Virginia Ruth Arthur.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Jimmy (wife Robin) Arthur; sister Mabel Ware; grandsons: Cordell and Nathanael; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral Services to celebrate Carol’s life were held on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Pastor Cofer Cochran officiating. Interment followed in Lynch-Lough Cemetery, Webster Springs.
Friends joined the family for visitation two hours prior to service time, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, at the Funeral Home.

Olive L. Greene
Olive L. (Moore) Greene, 92, of Cowen, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Monday morning, December 16, 2024. She was born October 15, 1932, in Birch River, W.Va., to Walter L. and Lula E. (Canfield) Moore.
A 1950 graduate of Cowen High School, Olive lived in Cowen, West Virginia, for 58 years. She retired from Webster County Schools after serving at Glade Elementary and Webster County High School as a cook. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was resilient, thoughtful, caring, giving, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and reading. Olive always had a deep love for exploring the beauty of West Virginia and had a special fondness in her heart for Camp Caesar and Camp Cowen in Webster County. She had a profound impact on her community, volunteering in a wide range of roles and always stepping up to lend a helping hand. A grandmother to every child she met through her work and volunteering, she cherished her family above all.
Olive is survived by her siblings Dick Moore of Sparta, Tenn.; Patricia Joanne Knapp of Elyria, Ohio; and Anna Mae Moore of Cowen, W.Va. Additionally, she is survived by children Jim (Sheila) Greene of Summersville, W.Va..; Beverly Jolliff of Cowen, W.Va.; Sharron Boggs of Canvas, W.Va.; and Becky (Howard) Young of Fancy Gap, Va.; and grandchildren Wendy Greene of Charleston, W.Va.; Amy (Patrick) Snively of Fairmont, W.Va.; Wally (Marie) Boggs of Fairmont, W.Va.; Michael (Kenzie) Greene of Braxton Co., W.Va.; Joseph (Jamie) Greene of Los Alamos, N.M.; Jennifer (Carless) Seabolt of Canvas, W.Va.; Rochelle (Sean) Lalley of Indian Trail, N.C.; Jodie (Jeremy) Jones of Burlington, N.C.; and Dustin Young of Waxhaw, N.C. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Olive was preceded in death by her parents; sister Oma Lea Cutlip of Elyria, Ohio; son Paul Greene of Erbacon, W.Va., and her granddaughter Sherry Ledsome of Nettie, W.Va.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 2:00 pm, in the 4-H Building at Camp Caesar, Cowen, WV.

Delbert Dale “DJ” Fisher Jr.
Delbert Dale “DJ” Fisher Jr., 44 of Burnsville, WV; departed this earthly life Friday, April 4, 2025 in Evarts, KY; following an epileptic seizure.
He was born April 16, 1980 in Gassaway, WV; son of Delbert Fisher of Charleston, WV; and the late Lesa Sauer.
DJ is a graduate of Braxton County High School, class of 1998. He worked as a rig hand in the Oil and Gas industry. In his spare time, DJ enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with family and friends, and caring for his daughter, whenever possible.
Surviving is his loving daughter Mauren Fisher of Weston, WV; and a host of other wonderful family and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 2:00 PM; Saturday, April 12, 2025. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery near Chapel, WV. Friends will be received from 12:00 noon – 2:00 PM; Saturday at the Mortuary in Glenville.

Robert Wayne Brown
Robert Wayne Brown, 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Carrollton, Virginia, on April 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 28, 1941, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Earl and Minnie Brown, Bob dedicated his life to service, family, and community.
In 1959, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving with Amphibious Construction Battalion Two for three years as an E3. After completing his active duty, he continued his commitment in the Reserves. In 1963, Bob joined the Portsmouth Police Department, embarking on a distinguished 28-year career.
The following year, he met and married the love of his life, Judy, in 1964.
Together, Bob and Judy raised three sons: Bobby, Kenny, and Joe. Beyond his professional duties, Bob was deeply involved in the community, notably coaching Little League for Olive Branch, where he mentored his sons and later his grandchildren. His passion for family extended to organizing reunions, cheering for the Redskins, and sharing his culinary talents.
Affectionately known as “Big Bob,” his vibrant personality and resonant voice were the cornerstone of family gatherings. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Judy; sons Bobby, Kenny and his wife Wendy, and Joe and his wife Staci; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Bob’s legacy of love, dedication, and community spirit will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 11th from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel.
Martin Aubrey Kidwell
Martin Aubrey Kidwell, 56, of Manassas, VA, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at his residence.
He was born in Warrenton, VA on December 31, 1968 the son of the late John Arthur & Dottie Ann King Kidwell. Also preceding him in death was his brother, John Kidwell, Jr.
Martin is survived by his brothers, Earl Andrew King and David Kidwell both of Manassas, VA; also several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, April 18, 2025 at King-Smallwood Cemetery, Bays, WV. There will be no visitation.

James Matthew Asbury
James Matthew Asbury, 56, of Duck passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Autumn Lake Nursing Home, Elkins, WV.
He was born on October 11, 1968, in Olcott, New York to the late James Matthew Sears and Helen Louise Beasley Sears.
Jimmy is survived by his brothers, David Asbury, Jack (Lillian) Asbury; and sister, Melissa Ann Brooks; and several nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his lifelong friends, Richard Legg and Iona Legg, William “Bub” Douglas, John Cottrell, Dave Widener and Linda Widener.
He was a Clay County High School graduate. Most recently he was employed by Asplundh and Bruce Allen Pipeline but he was a tree trimer by trade for many years. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman.
In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be a private service at a later date.

Brenda Lou Drane (Rose)
Brenda Lou Drane (Rose), age 73, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, in Moyock, North Carolina. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Brenda’s life was marked by unwavering faith, compassion, and a deep love for her family.
Born on January 16, 1952, in Sutton, West Virginia, Brenda was the daughter of Donal and Ruth Rose. She grew up in the heart of West Virginia and carried with her the values of kindness and resilience instilled by her upbringing. She pursued higher education at Glenville State University, where she prepared for a lifelong career in education.
Brenda dedicated over three decades to shaping young minds as a sixth-grade teacher with the Braxton County School System. Her commitment to her students and passion for teaching left a lasting impression on generations of children who passed through her classroom. Her gentle guidance and steady presence made her not only an educator but also a mentor and role model.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Brenda was an active member of both Stump Chapel Baptist Church and Moyock United Methodist Church throughout different seasons of her life. Her strength and dedication to her beliefs were evident in the way she lived—selflessly giving to others and always offering a helping hand.
Brenda found immense joy in spending time with her family. She cherished every moment with them and especially adored her grandchildren—Hailey, Taylor, and Emery Drane—whom she loved more than life itself. Her son Jason and daughter-in-law Stefanie were constant sources of pride and love in her life. Brenda shared a close bond with her sister, Vonda Gerwig , and brother-in-law, Bill Gerwig. She also held dear her many brothers and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews who brought joy to her days.
Her hobbies reflected her creative spirit; she enjoyed cross-stitching, dotting art projects, and crafting. These pastimes were not just personal joys but often became heartfelt gifts for those she loved.
Brenda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Phillip Drane; her father, Donal Rose; and her mother, Ruth Rose. Though their absence was deeply felt throughout the years, Brenda carried their memory forward with grace.
A funeral service honoring Brenda’s life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home located at 600 Riverview Dr., Sutton, West Virginia 26601. Family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM followed by funeral services beginning at 1:00 PM. Graveside services will follow immediately after at Braxton Memorial Cemetery, Airport Rd. Sutton, WV.
Brenda Drane’s legacy is one of love—steadfast love for God, for family, for community—and that love will continue to live on in all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who mourn her passing.

Alma Ruth Carpenter Anderson
Alma Ruth Carpenter Anderson, 102, of Hacker Valley went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at her home.
She was born April 1, 1923 on Cowger Hill to the late Jasper Newton and Roena Cowger Carpenter.
Alma was a member of the Hacker Valley Baptist Church. Her love for the Lord was reflected in actions with her family. She loved Sunday afternoon dinner with her family and making quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved being with her family no matter where she was.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Anderson; son David Anderson; daughter-in-law Dess Anderson; grandson Thomas Paul Anderson; great-grandson Caleb Paul Anderson; two brothers; and five sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Junior (Kathy) Anderson, Carol (John) Williams, Clara Anderson Michael, Donna (Leroy) Clutter, Anita (David) Helmstadter, and Willard (Judy) Anderson; 24 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; brother Olen Carpenter; sister Margie Cutlip; and many extended family members and friends to mourn her passing.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Hacker Valley Baptist Church with Pastor John Elbert officiating. Interment will follow in Hacker Valley Cemetery.
