HOSA students do well in first State Competition

On March 14th and 15th, seven Braxton County High School’s HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students attended their state conference (SLC) at Marshall University. There were nearly 700 high school students showcased their healthcare skills at the event. This was the first time the BCHS HOSA chapter has ever competed.

They may have been new to the competition, but they delivered an impressive performance, according to their advisor Stephanie Moore, BSN, RN. “BCHS is proud of each student who competed and demonstrated their commitment to learning.”

Students earning awards at the event included: Mackinzey Anderson, Alexander Dennison, and Joslynn Napier: 4th place in Mental Health Promotion; Teagan Huff: 3rd place in Medical Spelling; and Alexis Knowlton and Lauren Pritt: 3rd place Health Career Display. Huff, Knowlton, and Pritt placed in the top 3 of their event and qualified to compete at the international level in Nashville, TN this June.

The local HOSA chapter would also like to thank the Gassaway Lions Club, Sutton Moose Lodge 825, and Evelyn Post with Central WV Aging Services for their generous donations that helped students attend SLC.
