Amy Shannon Wills
Amy Shannon Wills, 46, of Heaters, entered her heavenly home on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
She was born in Lexington, KY on July 3, 1978, to Juanita Allen.
Amy was an only child to her mother. She was a 1996 graduate of Braxton County High School. After completing her Bachelor of Education from Glenville State College and her Master of Education from West Virginia University, she stayed close to her roots and began her employment with Braxton County Board of Education. Teaching second grade at Sutton Elementary School, she was more than just a teacher or coworker to all those she came in contact with. Her work ethic was like no other leading with professionalism, responsibility, and integrity. For about 20 years she worked for the Corp of Engineers at Bulltown Campground. Her passion for teaching was unrivalled and touched the lives of all those she came into contact with. At home, Amy loved to garden and do anything outside, not letting sweat or dirt get in her way. Her even keeled personality will be missed by all. The world would be a better place if there were more people like Amy in it.
Amy is survived by her mother, Juanita Allen of Heaters, and her dogs, Gus and Rose.
Amy’s visitation will be from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Victory Apostolic Church, 231 Airport Road, Sutton, WV.
Her funeral will be held 2 P.M. at the church with Pastor Jason Allen officiating.
Burial will follow in the Singleton Cemetery, Heaters.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Sutton Elementary School, 288 N. Hill Road, Sutton, WV 26601.

Donzella (Duckworth) Villers
Donzella (Duckworth) Villers, 93, of Glenville, went to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Serenity Assisted Living in Buckhannon, WV. She was born in Gem, WV on July 28, 1931 daughter of the late Burke W. Duckworth and Della (Singleton) Duckworth. Donzella was united in marriage on September 4, 1954 to John D. Villers, who preceded her in death on July 31, 2017.
Cherishing their memories of Donzella are her two daughters, Rebecca Lynn Sprouse (Neal) and Martha Ellen Clutter both of Glenville, son, John Mark Villers of Cedarville, WV, 5 grandchildren, Mitchell Hicks, Molly Hicks, Billy Sprouse (Amanda), Brian Sprouse (Kari), and Betsy Villers, 6 great grandchildren, Sawyer, Slader, Taylor, Sloane, John, and James Sprouse, half- brother, Marion Duckworth of Gassaway, WV, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, John, Donzella was preceded in death by a brother, Jerrell Duckworth, sister, Marjorie Villers, 2 half-brothers, Denver Duckworth and Paul Brown, and a son in law, Wayne Clutter.
Donzella was a graduate of Burnsville High School class of 1950. She had retired after 20+ years working as a clerk for Hardman’s Supply. Donzella was a member of the Stewart’s Creek Church in Glenville, Gilmer County Senior Center, and the Baldwin CEOS Homemakers for over 50 years, which led her to becoming the Folk Festival Belle in 2019 in Gilmer County. Her hobbies included working crossword puzzles, embroidery, and painting ceramics. Donzella will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends gathered at Hardman Family Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue of Weston, on Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The funeral service began at 1:30 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bill Hunt officiating. Interment followed service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to the Gilmer County Senior Center at 720 N. Connie Darlene McCoy Casto
Connie Darlene McCoy Casto, 69 of Diana went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at her home.
She was born January 26, 1956 in Buckhannon to the late Worlie and Kathleen Cogar McCoy. She owned and operated Connie’s Cut and Curl and served the community for several years before her battle with cancer.
In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Eddie Holcomb.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of almost 45 years, Lonnie Casto; children: Rodney McCoy, April Casto, and Shanna Casto; 13 grandchildren; sisters: Donnie Holcomb, Carolyn Fitts, and Wanda McCoy; brother Worlie McCoy; and several extended family and friends to mourn her passing.
Graveside Services were held on Monday, March 10, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at McCoy Cemetery with Pastor David Chapman officiating. Friends joined the family for visitation from 11:30 to 12:00 Noon at McCoy Cemetery.

Freda Louise McLaughlin
Freda Louise McLaughlin, 91, of Sutton, passed away peacefully on March 6, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 4, 1933 in Sutton, WV to Bertha Barnett Crites and Doy Crites.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Freda was known for her kind heart, unwavering strength, and generous spirit. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a lifelong member of Spruce Lick United Methodist Church and enjoyed quilting, sewing and playing cornhole.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents Lula Bertha and Doy Crites, her husband Oscar McLaughlin of 57 years, her son, Carl McLaughlin, sister JoAnn Mace, brothers, Garlin Crites and Wilbert Crites. She is survived by her sister, Unamae Griffin of Frametown, WV, her son, Jon and wife Alicia McLaughlin of Gassaway, her daughters, Carol Frame of Flatwoods, WV and Judy McCoy of Philadelphia, PA, her granddaughters Brittney and her husband Kenney Lawson of Beckley, WV, Bethany and her husband Eric Conrad of Pittsburgh, PA, her great-grandchildren, Parker Lawson, Kayla and her husband RJ Smith, Makenzie Lawson and her boyfriend Zach Rakes, and Dre Lawson, her great-great-grandchildren, Braxton Smith, Brogan Smith, and one due in July to Bethany and Eric Conrad. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to her caregiver, Sharon Hines, Braxton County Senior Center, Braxton County Memorial Hospital, and Ruby Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care and efforts towards Freda.
A celebration of Freda’s life was held on Tuesday, March 11 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, WV, with visitation beginning at 12, noon. The funeral service will follow at 1pm, officiated by Rev. Ronnie Acord. She will be laid to rest at Harris Cemetery, Sutton, WV.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Braxton County Senior Center in Freda’s memory.
Her kindness, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

James Allen Deel
James Allen Deel, 58, of Webster Springs passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Webster Memorial Hospital.
Born April 11, 1966 in Webster Springs, he was the son of the late David and Regina (Robinson) Deel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Nathan Deel; and sister, Concetta Blake.
Jimmy was a coal miner and enjoyed working on vehicles, riding motorcycles, and spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leslie (Moses) Deel; son, Andrew (wife, Sydney) Deel of Cleveland, OK; step-son, Cody Bailey (significant other, Hanna Williams); sister, Jamie (husband, Ryan) Mathes of Richwood; grandchildren: Gunnar Deel and Gracie Deel; and many extended family and friends to mourn his passing.
Services to celebrate Jimmy’s life were held 1pm, Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Pastor Jim Varney officiating. Friends joined the family from Noon-1pm for visitation.

Curtis Truman Wriston
Curtis Truman Wriston, 79, of Elmira, WV and formerly of Chesterfield, VA passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.
He was born on August 25, 1945, in Kingston, WV to the late Curtis Delmar Wriston and Margaret Hattie Yurkovich.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Zara Christine Wriston; and his brother, Steve Wriston.
Curtis was a heavy equipment mechanic. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and trap. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler and Harley Motorcycle. Memories of him will not be forgotten by his family.
He is survived by his son, Curtis DeWayne Wriston; daughter, DeAnna Dawn Atkins and husband, Danny; sisters, Sandra Hill and Marsha Stakes; his grandchildren, who he was very proud of, Rebecca, Ashley, Zach, AJ, Tristan, Savannah and Trace; and four great grandchildren, Kaylie, Stacey, Finn and Sully.
His funeral service was held at 2 P.M. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Roach Funeral Home, 708 Braxton Street, Gassaway with Reverend Rebecca Cook officiating.
Burial was in the Elmira Cemetery.
The visitation was two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Roy Lee Metheney
Roy Lee Metheney, 74, of Duck, WV, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025, at his home.
He was born at Chloe, WV, on January 29, 1951, a son of the late Arley and Mamie Tanner Metheney.
Roy was a farmer for 40+ years, a livestock inspector for the WV Department of Agriculture for 20 years, a Merchant Marine for 10 years and a store merchant for 10 years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Mary Agnes Metheney, brothers Dale Metheney and Orville Gene Metheney, and sister Eultheen Jarvis.
He is survived by brothers Daris (Jobby) Metheney of Preston, Ohio; Doy Metheney, Troxal Metheney, James (Jim) Metheney, and Timmy Dean Metheney all of Chloe, WV; sisters Louise Boggs and Tama Jarvis both of Chloe, WV; step-children Ronald Stricklen of Walton, WV and Lavonne Barnhouse of Clendenin, WV; several nieces and nephews, several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and special friends Jason Garrett, Amber, and Ty.
A funeral service will be conducted by Stump-Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, WV, and held at Unity Gospel Tabernacle, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Jesse Drake officiating. Visitation will be in the church one hour prior to the service. Internment will immediately follow in Coen Cemetery, Nebo, WV.
