Flatwoods Woman Jailed After Violating Home Confinement

A Flatwoods woman is in jail as a result of violating her home confinement requirements. Brittany Jo Williams of Stone Run Road, Flatwoods was serving the restricted sentence as a result of a September 2022 accident that claimed the life of John Baker of Sutton.
Williams’ automobile crossed the center line just north of the Flatwoods Go-Mart on Route 4/19 and struck a vehicle driven by Baker. According to Braxton Sheriff’s Department Captain B. A. Scarbro’s initial criminal complaint, Williams was overheard at the scene saying she was texting when the accident occurred.
Captain Scarbro’s investigation revealed that Williams, 35 at the time, had been convicted of driving under the influence in June 2016. She was subsequently charged in June 2020 with driving while license suspended. A third charge resulted from the 2022 accident.
Williams was formally charged with negligent homicide and driving while license suspended 3rd offense on September 7, 2023. She was arraigned before Braxton County Magistrate Beth Smith when she was released after posting bonds totaling $6,000 to await additional court proceedings. She subsequently entered guilty plea in Circuit Court and was placed on home confinement.
Williams was recently charged with failing a drug test while on home confinement. Magistrate Beth Smith set bond on the most recent charge at $7,500 cash only.
