Alfred William Perrine
Alfred William Perrine, 78, of St. Albans WV, formerly of Cowen, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. He was born September 29, 1946, a son to the late Bill and Opal Malcomb Perrine.
Alfred was a graduate of Cowen High School, a Vietnam Veteran and worked his entire career as a field engineer on computer banking equipment. His dedication and hard work, as well as his clever
financial finesse of money, allowed him an early retirement. Alfred
was passionate about camping and fishing. He could fix almost anything.
Surviving is his son Charles William Perrine and wife Katee Perrine of Princeton, WV; two granddaughters, Sarah Fricke and Ashley Weekly; and great granddaughter, Lucy Saccardi and another on the way, Charlee Fricke.
In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by his wonderful wife Sheila Perrine.
Services were held at 6:00 pm Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Morris Funeral Home with Pastor Ty Farlow officiating. Burial followed on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at West Virginia Memorial Gardens, for the immediate family.

Gregg David “Tubbs” Carpenter
Gregg David “Tubbs” Carpenter, 72, of Glasgow, formerly of Webster Springs passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Glasgow Hills.
Born July 10, 1952 in Webster Springs, he was the son of the late Sampson “Junior” and Geraldine “Juggy” (Ware) Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dusty Carpenter and sister-in-law, Debbie Carpenter.
Tubbs was a 1970 graduate of Webster Springs High School, where he was a phenomenal football player; he furthered his education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from West Virginia Technical College. He then became employed with Middle River Aircraft and Lockheed Martin Aerospace for 31 years where he inspected bombs for the United States Department of Defense and inspected parts made to go on Space Shuttles/Rockets for NASA; he retired in 2010. He enjoyed traveling the world and seeing different sites and cities, but he enjoyed Alaska and spending time anywhere tropical most; and no matter where life took him, he was sure to find a fishing pole and make a big catch while deep-sea fishing. He also enjoyed traveling to Bluegrass Festivals with his best friend, Darlene Ratliff. While Gregg never married or had children, he often boasted of how great life was with his brothers and their families; spoiling his nieces and nephews just as he would have his own. Gregg made friends very easily and kept those friends near and dear to him whenever possible. Family and friends alike always looked forward to their yearly fall “Crabfest” with him as their host. He was so good, in fact, he was deemed a Master Chef of seafood.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Randy Carpenter; niece and nephew: Heather (Chris) Campbell, and Ryan Carpenter; great-niece, Jayde Hamrick; great-nephews: Bo Carpenter and Jase Campbell; and a host of extended relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Services to celebrate Tubbs’ life were held 2pm, Monday, February 24, 2025 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Pastor Doy Carpenter officiating. Friends joined the family from 1pm-2pm, prior to the service. Burial followed beside his parents at Miller Cemetery, Backfork.

Donald Gene Williams
Donald Gene Williams, 75 of Craigsville, passed away on January 31, 2025, at WVU Ruby Memorial in Morgantown.
Donald was born in Baltimore Maryland on December 10, 1949, the son of the late Vernon Williams and Loraine Valentine.
Donald previously worked for the Caroline Speedway track maintenance and construction. He was an avid bowler, loved watching races, eating out, fishing, and camping. Donald was a member of the Lighthouse Apostolic Church in Craigsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Crystal Ball and brother Larry Williams.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Williams, Jr. (Amy) and Richard Williams (Michelle) both of Gastonia, NC; three sisters, Sheila Bode of Bel Air, MD and Shelly Short of Dundalk, MD and Debbie Biedrzycki of Meadville, WV; seven grandchildren and special friend Molly Woodring.

Kristen Leann Sanford
Kristen Leann Sanford, 25, of Cincinnati, Ohio (formerly of Cowen) passed away suddenly on January 30, 2025.
She was born on February 20, 1999, in Summersville, WV the daughter of Larry D. Sanford and Kelly Dodrill.
Kristen was a 2017 graduate of Webster County High School and a graduate of Berea College in Kentucky. She was a student at the University of Cincinnati School of Law.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers Carl Sanford and Charlie Dodrill and grandmother Roma Jean Dodrill.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandmother, Justine Heck; and brother Ronnie Dodrill of Craigsville, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Orman Groff Jr. “Jeep”
Jeep Groff of Nimtz, suddenly passed away while at home on Feb 17, 2025. Jeep was at home with his wife, Vicki and beloved dog Sam.
Jeep worked 35 yrs. As a heavy equipment operator in the coal industry and loved his job. Jeep LOVED working….. When he would come home from the coal mines, he would work on his farm with his cattle and in the hay fields for hours. Jeep to this day still has his 1973 farm tracker, that still runs. Jeep also, had a love for the outdoors. He was always hunting, fishing or camping with Vicki and Sam. Jeep was a past member at Gassaway Baptist Church in Gassaway and current member at Faith Community Church in Beckley.
March 23, 2013, Jeep suffered a “widow” maker heart attack. Jeep did recover from this medical event, however, was forced to retire from the coal mines. Retiring at this time was devasting to Jeep, he was used to working 24/7. He did learn to adjust and found hobbies to enjoy. He spent his time mowing, enjoying the outdoors and when inside working puzzles with Vicki. In the past few years anywhere, Jeep went he had his dog “Sam” with him. Sam was his world, and everyone knew it.
Two of Jeep biggest enjoyments are his granddaughter’s. Konner Hope and Kennedy Faith, they can do no wrong in Poppy’s eyes. He enjoyed spending every minute with them. He loved watching Konner play soccer and Kennedy dance. When the girls were younger, he enjoyed taking them camping and teaching them how to fish. Their Poppy is very proud of the young women they are today. He will now be watching over them.
Another enjoyment in his life was attending his small group, “Wisdom Seekers”. He loved the special friendships that he made and ALL the food that was shared during their meetings. This group made a huge impact on Jeep’s spiritual walk. He made sure that everyone within the group knew about his dog Sam also.
Jeep was preceded in death by his parents Orman Groff Sr, and Joetta Groff. Also, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 45 yrs. Vicki. His daughter September Davis and husband Jason. Granddaughters Konner Hope and Kennedy Faith Davis. His loving dog Sam.
His six siblings: Nancy Johnson, husband Allen. Marynell McCoy. Sue Currence, husband Charlie. Larry Groff, wife Lori. Minnie Coffman, husband Terry. Betty Groff. Sister-in-law Debbie Lusk, husband Craig. and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jeep’s life was held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Calfee Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Franklin. Friends visited with the family one hour prior to the service.
Ronald Lewis Gower
Ronald Lewis Gower, 77, of Fairmont, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the Genesis Tygart Center at Fairmont. He was born April 6, 1947 in Marion County, WV, a son of the late James and Sarah B. Lucas Gower. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Dotty E. Bright Gower.
Ron was a 1965 graduate of Fairview High School, and a Veteran with the United States Army having served three enlistments during his military career. He was a Christian by faith. Ron retired from the Eastern Mine Company, Federal #2 Mine as foreman with over 37 years of service. After his retirement, Ron served as a part-time delivery driver with the Rivesville Pharmacy.
Ron was a member of the American Legion Post 17. Ron enjoyed bowling and playing cards. He especially loved the annual family camping trip to Braxton County where he loved to ride side by sides. He was an avid WVU Mountaineer football and basketball fan, always having the game on the TV, no matter the day or time.
In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by his son, Ronnie Gower, II and his wife Megan of Morgantown, his daughters, Michelle Gower and Jennifer Gower, both of Texas, his grandchildren, Robbie Laskoskie and his wife Brittany, Kirsten Laskoskie, and Hannah Laskoskie, all of Texas, as well as his three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers: Larry and Pat Gower of Monumental, William “Lug” and Judy Gower of Rivesville, Hatch and Brenda Gower of Bellview, Tom and Mary Gower of Fairmont, and John and Trish Gower of Logan, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 3PM until 8PM and on Friday, February 21, 2025 from 12 noon until 1PM. The funeral was held in the funeral home on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 1PM with Pastor Eric Veltre officiating. Interment followed at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont, WV, where graveside military rites will be held by the Marion County Veterans Council. Florence Elizabeth Pierson Shaver Hyre
Florence Elizabeth Pierson Shaver Hyre, 97 of Craigsville passed away on February 14, 2025, at Summersville Health Care Center.
Florence was born April 11, 1927, in Little Birch, WV the daughter to the late Roy Pierson and Della Rose Pierson.
She was a 1946 graduate of Sutton High School and attended Glenville State University. Florence was a former member of the Eastern Star, Half Acre Church and a bowling league. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking large meals, bowling, fishing, hunting and playing bingo. Her grandchildren were the love of her life.
Surviving are children, John (Sue) Shaver, Charles (Kathy) Shaver, Helen (Warren) Vance; grandchildren, Kevin and Brandon Vance, John Shaver, Jr, Paula Shaver, Pamela Clutter, Janie Fraley, Joann Moyers and Marilyn Adams; 23 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother Orpha Pierson; husbands, Pearl Shaver and Rex Hyre; siblings Albert, Frank, Arthur, French, William, Elsie, Edith, Dora, Ruby and Frances.
Service was held at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Morris Funeral Home in Cowen with Pastor Terry Cunningham officiating. Burial followed at West Virginia Memorial Gardens in Calvin, WV. A gathering of family and friends was held from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Earl Nelson “Bud” Postelwaite
Earl Nelson “Bud” Postelwaite, 60 of Camden on Gauley passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 10, 2025 at the Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, WV. He was born March 8, 1964 in Webster Springs, WV a son of the late Carl “Bud” and Geneva Crouse Postelwaite.
Bud was a former electrician for Allstate Electric, a roofer, a landscaper and former maintenance for Wellmon Friction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, wood working and being on the farm working with his hands.
He is survived by his faithful companion Reese, his son Timothy (Ashley) Green of Arizona, his daughter Carra (Jeremiah) Mullens of Summersville, his daughter Kadie (Eric) Postelwaite of Florida, his daughter Shannon Jones of Ohio, his son Cody Jones of Ohio, his siblings Bobbi Postelwaite of Webster Springs, Jane (Howard) White of South Carolina, Jackie (Mike) Collins of Bolair, Andy (Cyndi) Postelwaite of Ohio and brother in law Chris Vargas of Ohio, 15 grandchildren, many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Mary Jo Vargas.

Michael Dale Neff
Michael Dale Neff, 58, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, WV.
He was born on December 15, 1965, in Summersville, WV the son of the late Jennings Homer & Hattie White Neff. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Johnny Neff, Carl Stanton Neff; sisters, Alice Rose, Patricia King, twin sister, Melinda Painter, Abby Hoover.
Michael was a Timber Cutter and a Baptist by faith.
He is survived by his son, Cody Neff; sisters, Angel Neff and Teresa Lindsey.
Upon request the body will be cremated. There will be no service.

Treva Mitchell
Treva Mitchell, 85, of Frametown passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at home.
She was born on November 10, 1939, a daughter of the late Van Buren Jarvis and Irene Stalnaker Jarvis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Mitchell; daughter, Carol Claar; infant grandson, Stevie Claar; and siblings, Anna Lee Carr, and Marie Carr.
Treva was a homemaker. Quilting, gardening and singing at home made her happy. She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending church. She was a member of Charity Baptist Church and she also taught Sunday School at the Belfont Church. Her beautiful personality and smile will be missed.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Lennie Shepherd and wife, Wendy, of Atwater, Ohio and James Mitchell Jr. of Frametown; grandchildren, Kenneth Shepherd and wife, Tammy, also Lennie Shepherd, Robert Shepherd, Shania Claar, and Jacob Cole Mitchell; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Virlen “Jink” Jarvis of Ravenna, Ohio, and Van “Gabby” Jarvis of LaGrange, Ohio; one sister, Betty Lovings of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Treva’s funeral was 1 P.M. Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Roach Funeral Home, 708 Braxton Street, Gassaway, WV with Reverend Johnny Conrad officiating.
Interment was in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.
Visitation was two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Glennis Virginia Drake
Glennis Virginia Drake, 90, of Ivydale, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Clay Health Care Center, Big Otter, WV.
She was born on September 3, 1934, in Clay County to the late Clarence Keener and Nealie Nottingham Keener.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronsel Drake; daughter, Linda Harrison; son-in-law, George Harrison; great grandsons, Isaac Murphy, Jack Cummings, and Michael Keiffer; brothers, James “Jimmy” Keener, Gory Keener, Glenn Keener, Johnny Keener, and Gerald Keener; and sister, Pearlie Douglas.
Glennis enjoyed caring for her home and gardening. For a time spanning over 3 decades she was a caregiver for others. She liked spending time with her husband and family. During the last 10 years of her life she and her family spent time bird watching and bird feeding. She would travel on car trips with her best friend. Glennis was proud of her Indian heritage and she was also a Baptist by faith.
Left to cherish her memories are her son, Jerry Drake of Virgina Beach, Virginia, and Christopher Drake and wife, Julia, of Sutton; grandchildren, Jerri Drake of Gassaway, Stacy Murphy of Summersville, Twyla Harrison of Charleston, Richard Drake and wife, Teresa, of Ivydale, Skylee Wenger and husband, Jackson, of Japan, and Alexia Ware and husband, Kyle, of Cross Lanes; sister, Sharon “Sissy” Keener of Ivydale; great granddaughters, Jennifer Wilson and husband, Logan, of Flatwoods, Ashley Schultz and husband, Kody, of Ivydale, and Hannah Drake also of Ivydale; and great great grandchildren, Walker Smith, Wesley Smith and Delila Wilson. She also leaves behind her best friend, Paula Coen of Chloe.
Her graveside service will be 1 P.M. Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Coen Cemetery, Chloe with Reverend Linn Schiefer officiating.

David Anderson AKA PAP)
David Anderson (AKA PAP), 82 years of age, left this world to be with Dess on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Webster Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was born April 15, 1942 to Alma and the late Paul Anderson of Hacker Valley.
David was a disabled/retired timber cutter that enjoyed his work. He spent the biggest part of his time cutting firewood and everyone knew his love for Ware Mountain Cemetery and keeping it clean.
David was an avid hunter, loved four-wheeler riding, his garden, the outdoors and running the trapline. Most of all he loved his family. He loved hunting because he knew all the boys would be home. He loved Sundays because the family would be home for dinner. Anyone who knew him knew he was a strong hard-working man. He was Christian by faith.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his mother Alma Anderson; sons: Wayne (Earlene) Anderson, Richard (Tammy) Anderson, Billy (Bernicia) Davis, and Jeffrey (Angie) Anderson; daughter Peggy (Ronald) Quinn; daughter-in-law Lynda Anderson; grandchildren: Adam Anderson, Michael (Erika) Anderson, Aaron (Alayna) Anderson, Ti (Elizabeth) Anderson, Keighan Chewnign, David Paul Anderson, Hunter Davis, Rylee Anderson, Mason Davis, Bailee Anderson, and Sammual Anderson; step-grandchildren: Tracy Chips, Randy Leggit, Danny Hornbeck, Mitch Leggit, and Jackie (Chris) Verton; great-grandchildren: Annabelle Grace, Cal, Leo, Owen, Ellie, Aurora, Brently, Randy, Hailey, Carly, Finely, Karus, Colton, and Oaklynn; brothers: Junior (Kathy) Anderson and Willard (Judy) Anderson; sisters: Carol (John) Williams, Clara Anderson, Donna (Leroy) Clutter, and Anita (David) Helmstadter; brother-in-law Sonny (Marilyn) Fisher; sisters-in-law Hazel Fisher, Donna Fisher, and Mabel Hamrick; uncle Olen Carpenter; aunt Margie Cutlip; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dessie “Dess” Fisher Anderson; son Thomas Paul Anderson; grandson Caleb Anderson; his father Paul Anderson; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Lester and Fanny Fisher.
Friends joined the family for visitation on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs. Funeral Services to celebrate David’s life were held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Cosner officiating. Interment followed in Ware Cemetery, Hacker Valley.

Marcia J. Saluk
Marcia J. Saluk, 76, of Parkersburg, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 22 at WVU Medicine Camden Clark. She was born July 1st , 1948 to the late Darrell and Margaret McIntyre.
She was a 1966 graduate of Burnsville High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Steve, on June 24, 1972. They moved to Parkersburg where they raised their family and spent the rest of their lives. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and her sweet dog, Daisy.
She is survived by her three daughters, Andrea (Chris) Ruppenthal of Hurricane, WV; Erica (Jeff) Starcher of Parkersburg, WV; and Amanda Saluk of Parkersburg, WV. She is also survived by her 3 grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Emma Starcher of Wheeling, WV; Emileigh Ruppenthal of Hurricane, WV; and Bradyn Starcher of Parkersburg, WV. She is also survived by one sister, Charlotte Sears of Charleston, WV; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Don and Jeanie Hammond, who provided our family with over 50 years of love and friendship.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Steve, who passed away Feb. 28th, 2014; and sisters, Patricia Gaskins, Darlena Riffle, and Sara Brown.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 26th, at 11 a.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Donald Hammond officiating.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Feb. 25th, from 6-8 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
A private burial will follow at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
