I had a rather leisurely weekend. Jeanine is looking to upgrade her jeep, so we spent Saturday in Clarksburg at car dealerships. We visited two. The truck she saw in an ad looked really nice and it was in her price range. We didn’t drive it since it had a lift kit and 37″ tires. I couldn’t get in it, so it was rather pointless to go any further. We found another similar one. It was lower, at least low enough for me to get in and out of comfortably, with far less miles. Unfortunately, it was out of my budget and the dealership didn’t like my offer.
We drove to Fairmont and looked at another. The salesman retrieved it from the lot and as he was approaching the show room, Jeanine says… “I don’t like it.” Needless to say, that shortened the stay.
On Sunday, I planned to watch the Daytona 500. Jeanine had fixed me a late breakfast and I was getting ready to tune in to the prerace shows, when the electric went out. So, for the next 4 hours I sat in near darkness paying games on my I-Pad… the one or two that didn’t require internet connectivity. That is until the battery went dead.
With nothing else to do, I opted for a nap. Just as I was almost asleep the electric came back on. When I finally got the TV to come on, I learned that the race was in a rain delay. At least with power my I-Pad was back up and running.
Later in the evening the race did get underway, and I eventually got to watch it. While it wasn’t the Sunday that I envisioned, it was a restful one.
If you haven’t read Brent Boggs column yet you may need to do so to full understand the comments here.
At the end of his column Brent talks about he and Jean shopping for Valentines Day cards. I can relate. In his humorous account he tells how he and his wife ended up with the same card. He attributed the coincidence to 46 years of marriage. Jeanine and I have been married for 52 years this July, so I can relate. She aways gets me a thoughtful, meaningful card regardless of the occasion. She out-did herself this year. The message was very touching.
I too, want the wording of the card to be just right. I am usually successful in my search. I spent way more time than I intended last week in that search, reading fifty plus cards… none of which met my expectations. Finally, I opted for the easy way out and bought her a box of candy. I have learned in all these years that candy, and flowers are a winner every time!
