Teagan Huff signs to run XC at Potomac State

By Shirley Shuman

Teagan Huff, a runner for the BCHS cross-country team, recently committed to run for Potomac State College. She will run under the tutelage of Coach Chris Biser.

The daughter of Philip and Shannon Huff has been running since she was five, according to her mother. The recent signee explained that she actually began running—with her mother—when she was five. “I did it for fun,” she said.

Sixth grade was her first formal cross-country running as she competed with the BCMS team. During her middle school running career, she made all conference, and the Knights won the conference championship several times.

During her high-school running career, Huff’s team won the regional meet all four years to make it to the state championship. The Eagles won the state meet the last two years, the first year in class AA, and the second in class A. In both years Huff earned Second Team All-State honors.

Her personal record came her junior year in the 2023 Little Kanawha Conference competition. In her last two years of high school running, she earned Second Team All-LKC honors.

BCHS cross-country coach Robert Lloyd explained he coached Huff during her eighth-grade year when the Knights won the conference championship. He said, “As Teagan moved to the high school, she was already one of the team’s top runners. That says a lot out of a freshman. Teagan has been a solid-scoring team member, helping her team achieve their success.”

Also a basketball player, Huff played her freshman year and is playing again this year. She missed the two years in between because of an injury.

Huff explained why she chose Potomac State. “It’s a very small school, and when I visited it felt ‘homey,’” she said. “Classes are small, and I think that will be better for me.”

At Potomac State, she plans to begin the journey to becoming a doctor, probably in obstetrics. At Braxton County High, she belongs to HSTA, HOSA, and National Honor Society, and is also a SAT scholar.  Huff declared her support for success comes from God, her family and friends, and her coaches
