Legislative Update… By Lori Dittman WV House of Delegates 63rd District

As we bid farewell to 2024, I find myself reflecting on the year through the lens of my camera. Being quite the shutterbug, I have captured countless moments that now serve as a highlight reel of the past twelve months. Each photo is a reminder of the moments that mattered so much that I felt compelled to record them. I encourage you to do the same—take a stroll down memory lane by revisiting your 2024 album. You might be surprised by the memories you have forgotten, waiting to be rediscovered.
Looking ahead to 2025, January interims are scheduled for January 6th and 7th. The schedule is available at www.wvlegisture.gov. Opening Day of the 87th Legislature will take place on January 8th with the Secretary of State entering the House and Senate Chambers to present the results of the preceding election and certify that all 134 members have been duly elected. Members will then take their official oaths of the office and become members of the body. After that they will proceed to officially elect the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate as well as other orders of business. The legislature will then recess until February 12th.
Representing the 63rd District is both a privilege and an honor. I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me to be your voice in government. Your support and engagement inspire me every day to work diligently on your behalf. Together, we have achieved significant milestones, and I am committed to continuing our efforts to improve our community and address the issues that matter most to you. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.

I am filled with optimism for the future of West Virginia. Our state is brimming with potential, from our rich natural resources to our resilient and hardworking communities. We are making strides in education, healthcare, and economic development, paving the way for a brighter tomorrow. With continued innovation and collaboration, I believe we can overcome any challenges and build a prosperous future for all West Virginians. Together, we can achieve amazing accomplishments and ensure that our state remains a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.
Before I close this column, I would like to recognize the loss of a stalwart member of our at-large community, Jim Criner. Jim was dedicated to our community and a friend, mentor, and pastor to many. My prayers for comfort go out to all his family and friends.
For each of you, I wish good health and prosperity in 2025. I am truly excited to ring in a new year and new opportunities.
“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something.”
(Neil Gaiman)
