Earlier this month, co-workers, friends and family came together to celebrate and say farewell to David Singleton upon his retirement as Magistrate from the Supreme Court representing Braxton County for the past 10 years.
The Honorable Judge Michael Asbury, Jr. representing the Supreme Court of Appeals, presented Dave with a plaque honoring his time of service.
Dave was born on January 8, 1948, the youngest of three children born to Raymond and Florence Singleton. He grew up on Cutlip Fork Road, attended the Bond one room schoolhouse, riding in the rumble seat of his teacher Mrs. Betty Heater car until such time as he attended Davis Grade School.
He graduated from Gassaway High School in 1965 and at the age of 17 (with his parents’ permission), entered into the U.S. Air Force serving his country until 1969, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon returning home, Dave married Judy Simmons and was hired by the Kroger Company in their first store located in Gassaway. Dave’s work history with Kroger spanned over 38 years, having held many store positions including store manager.
Dave and Judy are active members of Sutton Baptist Church and are blessed and grateful for their church family. They still reside on the home place on Cutlip Fork Road.
Dave says he considers it an honor and privilege to have served the residents of his home county.
