One of the final acts of the Braxton County Commission at their regular meeting last Friday, December 20 was to recognize two outgoing public officials for their dedication to the citizens of Braxton County. Commission President Lisa Godwin presented both Commissioner Melvin Gum and Sheriff Lou DellaMea plaques commemorating their services to the county while serving in their official capacity.
Tyler Long, 9-1-1 Director was first to address the Commission when Lisa Godwin called the meeting to order. Long presented the Commission with an activity report of his agency for the month of November.
Debbie Friend and Caleb Harper representing Holly Gray Park gave the Commission an update on the finalized funding of the Health Grant received by the Park for improvements. Harper also requested that the Commission check on Hotel/ Motel Tax distribution as the Park had not received any money since June. Commissioner Godwin said she would look into the matter.
Caleb Harper, Ron Facemire, and George Skidmore of the Holly Gray Park Board requested permission from the Commission to use the remining $93,000 of the $250,000 in ARPA Lost Revenue Funds to be used for architectural and other work on a new dining hall facility for the park. Permission was granted.
The Commission approved the short form settlements for the following as submitted by the Fiduciary Supervisor: Marjorie Joy Bourn, Marilyn Kay Brown, Larry Wayne Cutlip, Brenda S. Argabrite, Charles S. Fleming, Jimmy Pritt and Charles R. Lloyd.
Corrections of erroneous assessments were approved for Lisa Ortega, David & Betsy Crites and Jeffery L & Linda Marie Williams.
The Commission approved the resignation due to the retirement for Phyllis Browning from the Circuit Clerks office.
Larry Clifton made a motion to approve the State Tax Department’s change of property values for the tax year 2025.
The Commission approved the internal budget revisions as submitted by the Sheriff’s Department.
Larry Clifton made a motion to appoint Lisa Godwin as president of the Commission for the upcoming year. That action received the unanimous support of the body.
Following a brief discussion the Commission approved a subscription to the I am Responding app for county first responders.
By separate motion, Donald Conrad, OES Director was appointed to the 9-1-1 Advisory Board and the EMS Board. Tyler Long, 9-1-1 Director was appointed to the EMS Authority Board.
The Commission reviewed a request from Timothy Skidmore to be removed for health reasons as administrator of Wilda Skidmore’s estate, before approving it.
The Commission approved the Sheriff’s list of tax liens certified to the State Tax Department.
Separate motions approved the minutes of the Commission’s December 6 regular meeting and payment of the county and EMS bills as submitted.
Being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 9:26 a.m. The next regular meeting of the Braxton County Commission will convene at 9:0 a.m. on January 3, 2025.
