Noel “Skeeter” Pletcher Awarded Lions’ Prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship

The Melvin Jones Fellowship is considered the highest form of recognition within the Lions Club. Recipients are recognized for their exemplary service to their club and community, and for upholding the Lions’ tradition of selfless service. The Gassaway Lions Club recently awarded this Fellowship to Noel “Skeeter” Pletcher.
Skeeter joined the Lions in 1961 at the urging of his older brother and for 63 continuous years has been a Lion. Over the years he has held many positions within the Gassaway Club, including President.
Four generations of Pletcher’s have been or are Lions. His father was a founding member at the clubs formation; his son Jon and granddaughter Lexi are members. As the membership has gone up and down Skeeter has always been involved in keeping the club active and alive.
In the community he has been a member of the Gassaway Volunteer Fire Department. He has served on the boards of the Senior Center, Precision Services, and the Bank of Gassaway. He is a past president of the Museum of American Glass in Weston, WV. He was very active in the growth of the museum.
Through his business Pletcher Motors he has helped numerous people with his services, often beyond what would be expected of a business. He is an icon with his red toboggan when seen on the streets in colder weather. Gassaway Lions members hope those who see him around town congratulate him on becoming a Melvin Jones Fellow.
