County Resident Places in Radiologic State Competition

WVU Medicine United Hospital Center (UHC) Radiologic Technology senior students attended the 70th annual West Virginia Society of Radiologic Technologist (WVSRT) conference from November 7 through November 9 at the Bridgeport Conference Center. Students participated in research papers and exhibit competitions, as well as the student bowl competition.
Senior student, Kira Brown of Braxton County won third place in the research paper competition with her paper titled “The Use of MEG Imaging vs Functional MRI for Studies of the Brain”. Keri Yanero, won first place in the research paper competition with her paper titled “The Use of AI in Tumor Classification”, and Members of the student bowl team including Victoria Anderson, Alexis Hudson, and Kira Brown won first place in the student bowl competition that consisted of sixteen teams competing.
“I am extremely proud of the dedication and hard work these students have put into preparing for this competition,” said Micah Ford, Program Director. “These awards were a win for our entire program.”
The mission of the West Virginia Society of Radiologic Technologists is to advance professional development by providing educational opportunities to imaging professionals that will include advances in health care in relation to technology, thus ensuring quality patient care within the scope of practice.
The West Virginia Society of Radiologic Technologists (WVSRT) has been a recognized affiliate of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) since April 1952. West Virginia is one of 34 states with a licensure requirement for medical imaging (RE: radiographers, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance imaging).
