The most recently monthly meeting of the Sutton Town Council was held on November 14. Mayor JD Hoover and council member Beth Atkins were absent from the meeting and Jon Crum was present via phone. As per city ordinance, Recorder Robin Dolan facilitated the meeting.
The council approved the minutes of the October 10 regular meeting and the October 18 special meeting on a motion by John Patterson. Jon Crum led the action to approve the payment of bills as presented. Crum questioned the purchase of the “green patch” and which roads it would be used on. Recorder Robyn Dolan stated she would have the street crew compile a list as it is used.
Recorder Dolan noted the street crew had been working on cleaning drains and graveling ditches with the recent rain.
She discussed possibly adding another street light across from Sutton Auto Parts as that area is not well lit at night. Catherine Hoover suggested contacting Mon Power to see about costs and have a discussion the next meeting.
Recorder Dolan also stated that work on N. Baxter Street will probably not be completed by the WVDOH until spring now.
Catherine Hoover wanted to remind town citizens that there is an ordinance where individuals are responsible for cleaning up their dogs’ waste in the town. This includes not only the sidewalks in town, but the cemetery on Town Hill.
Police Chief Harry Teare discussed changing the time of the Halloween events to a little earlier in the evening that way the children are not out after dark as long. He also informed council he would be unavailable for the Christmas parade but he had made arrangements for another officer in the county to cover the event.
Catherine Hoover questioned the chief about concerns over an individual on Town Hill. He informed her that there were several conflicting stories and it was still under investigation.
Hoover also requested that Bill Hopen be contacted about the items in front of his buildings on Main Street and having them removed before the Christmas parade.
Chief Teare also asked that there be no parking along the street the day of the parade from 7am to 1pm.
Several items including the Police Department Handbook, Town Hill property leveling bids, and dilapidated property ordinance were tabled until the next meeting due to the absence of the mayor and council member.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:18 pm.
