One of the highlights of last Friday’s Braxton County Commission meeting was presentation of a check to the Burnsville Public Utility Board for a Local Economic Development Assistance (LEDA) Grant. Commission President Lisa Godwin explained, the grant to be administered by the Commission, was secured by House of Delegates member Lori Dittman who could not attend the meeting due to work requirements. Godwin presented the check to Debbie Waldron a member of the BPUB. The funding will be used to purchase equipment.
Dian Moore spoke to the Commission regarding an extension of water service to five families on Brock Run Road. She presented the body with an estimate for the project provided by Flatwoods Canoe Run PSD which showed the total cost of the project to be $25,607.66. Moore requested that the Commission fund the Preliminary Engineering Report. The request was granted on a motion by Melvin Gum.
Tyler Long, E-9-1-1 Director was next to address the Commission. He requested that Vanessa R. Keller be moved from part-time to full-time employment. He stated in his request that Keller would be paid $14.00 per hour and receive full county benefits. She will also serve a 90-day probationary period. The request was granted.
EMS Administrative Assistant Sherri Garren appeared on behalf of EMS Director Tirrany Prior. She addressed Prior’s letter requesting that the Salary Enhancement Funds, previously granted the agency, be used to develop a Crisis Response Team. Garren reviewed a proposal from Over Watch First Responder Services, LLC to provide training for that special group at a cost of $18,246.74. The request was approved.
In other action, probate appointments for the month of October were approved as presented by the Fiduciary Supervisor.
A request from Rachel & Scan Fowler to correct an erroneous assessment was approved as presented.
Two purchase orders were approved by the Commission. One was to W.S. Darley & Company for $810 for fittings for the county ladder truck. The second was in the amount of $9,000 to GovWorx Inc. for a CommsCoach Annual Subscription for the 9-1-1 Center.
The Commission also approved the purchase of 6 new Dell computers for the 9-1-1 center at a cost of $4,784.64.
Long also discussed recent evaluation for basic supplies for the 9-1-1 center which revealed that Cintas could provide the materials at a more cost-effective price than independent sourcing the items. The Commission authorized the agency to enter into an agreement with the company.
By individual motions, the Commission approved resolutions for the Cyber Security Grant, HRSA Grant and the COPS and DOJ Grant.
The Commission convened in a brief executive session at 9:30 a.m. to discuss the hiring of a custodian for the Courthouse. At 9:35, in regular session, Larry Clifton made a motion to hire Norma Jean Roberts to fill the vacancy. She will be paid $12.02 per hour with full county benefits.
Following a brief explanation, the Commission authorized the reopening of special accounts that had been closed by the financial institution due to lack of activity.
The final actions of the meeting were the approval of the county and EMS Bills for payment and the minutes of the Commission’s October 18 meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m. The next regular meeting of the Braxton County Commission will convene on November 15 at 9:00 a.m.
