This November, in honor of National Veterans and Military Families Month, Mountaineer Food Bank is urging West Virginians to support local veterans facing food insecurity through its Veterans Table program. Designed to address veterans’ unique needs, this program has delivered over half a million meals to veterans and their families across the state. Yet, as inflation pressures grow and fixed incomes remain unchanged, many veterans struggle to afford basic necessities.
Veterans Table food distributions have become essential lifelines, offering boxes of food, bags of pet food, and a place for veterans to connect with their community. Many participants are seniors or disabled veterans living on limited incomes who rely on these events to help meet their nutritional needs.
“Veterans have given so much to protect and serve our country, and it’s our responsibility to make sure they don’t face the added burden of hunger,” said Chad Morrison, Mountaineer Food Bank CEO. “We know that through volunteering, making a recurring donation, or spreading the word about the program, we’re one step closer to no veteran in West Virginia ever going hungry.”
For those able to contribute, a $35 donation can provide a food box for one veteran, with recurring donations offering ongoing assistance. Volunteers are also needed. To support the Veterans Table program, visit MountaineerFoodBank.org/VeteransTable, where more information is also available.
