Today is Election Day, if you are reading this on Tuesday, November 5. If you haven’t voted, please do so.
By all estimations we will have a record-breaking turnout for this election and that is good. I however, wish there were better choices in several of the races to vote for. Regardless, this appears to be an election where the majority of the citizens are making the decisions and that is the way it should be. No matter the outcome, we will have to live with it. Hopefully we can get back to normal in the coming days. Unfortunately, regardless of who wins, the average American is probably destined for at least a short-term rocky future.
I read something this week that summed it up rather well. The article stated that most voters were suffering anxiety about the outcome of the election. I know I certainly am. We don’t need any more violence, and we need to see our country come back together for the common good. Another article told how we were playing into the hands of China and Russia who were doing their best to influence the election and divide our country. That’s scary, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that some form of normalcy is on the horizon.
I will be glad to see this election over. I always get tired of the political rhetoric and mudslinging. While I didn’t think it could get any worse after the last presidential election, I now see I was wrong. Plus, with AI, false allegations by foreign countries and general misleading advertising, no one knows what to believe. I think that the logical assumption is regardless of the source or where the intent is aimed, only 10% is really accurate.
I will be glad to see the commercials, which now takes up more time than the programming, disappear. I have seen some interesting things this election cycle. We have Sherrod Brown and his opponent vying for a Senate seat in Ohio. We have been smothered with millions of dollars in advertising in what is at the very least a dirty race. One thing I noted from the advertising is that most of the ads opposing Brown are paid for by what I think they termed the “Senate Leadership Committee”. In other words, those in power are undoubtedly using money that was meant for other purposes, much of which probably came from taxpayers, to fight their political enemies. I don’t think that is right and it should be illegal.
The other item that I saw in the advertising world that I found interesting was the barrage of advertising by Larry Pack for State Treasurer. After hearing his name repeatedly, I went to the Sample Ballot to see who his competition was. As it turned out, he is unopposed. So, why the huge advertising blitz?
At any rate a new era will begin after Tuesday’s election, I can only hope it will be a better one!
