Joan B. Frame
Joan B. Frame of Cowen, WV, passed away on September 18, 2024, at the age of 78. Joan was born on April 19, 1946 in Jodie, WV, to Randell Bragg, Sr. and Garnet Bragg of Cowen, WV. She grew up in Cowen. She graduated from Cowen Grade School and Cowen High School. Later, she became a licensed practical nurse, dedicating her career to caring for countless patients. Despite her professional commitments, Joan was also a full-time mother, balancing her responsibilities with grace and dedication.
Joan was married to Wade T. Frame for 40 years before his passing.
Joan is survived by her two sons, Thomas Williams of Cowen, WV and Fred Williams (Julie) of Raleigh, NC, and her brother, Randell Bragg, Jr.
She is also survived by her nieces and nephews:
Joanie Mace Coley and family, Jill Mace Petersen and family, Donna Bush, Debbie Boley, John Mace (Cindy) and family, Bobby Mace and family, Randell Bragg, III and family, and Clifford Bragg.
Additionally, her brother-in-law Dr. Robert Mace survives her.
Joan’s most significant accomplishments were her dedication to her family and her compassionate care for others. Throughout her life, she selflessly cared for elderly family members and was deeply passionate about helping young children and families in her community. She frequently donated food, clothing, and school supplies to those in need, and her advice and wisdom were often sought by young families in Cowen.
Joan will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and devotion to her family and her community. She had a deep concern for the well-being of others, particularly children and struggling families, and her contributions left a lasting impact.
Joan’s life was a testament to the power of selfless love and compassion, a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Joan’s wishes for cremation have been honored. A memorial service was held Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 1:00pm at Morris Funeral Home with Chaplain Jim Dyer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joan’s memory to Cowen Food Pantry C/O (Linda Dyer) P.O. Box 476 Cowen, WV 26206 to help fill backpacks for school children and families in Cowen, WV.

Elizabeth Fay Cutlip
Elizabeth Fay Cutlip, 64, of Webster Springs passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 16, 2024, after a long illness. She was born on August 10, 1960, in Ashtabula, Ohio. The daughter of the late Denver Leo Haught and Patty Ann Riggleman.
Elizabeth enjoyed being a homemaker, tending to her flowers, doing crossword puzzles, watching game shows, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, James (JD) Cutlip; daughters, Samatha and Kayla Cutlip; grandchildren, Miguel Cutlip and Skylar LeBlanc; sisters, Rebecca Herd, Debra Haught and Rose Lewis; brother, Denver Haught; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth’s wishes for cremation have been honored and a celebration of life will be at a later date.

Ginger Louise Williams Short
Ginger Louise Williams Short passed away August 28, 2024, at her home. She was born on June 27, 1969, to Jubert and Hazel Williams of Cowen.
Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Hazel Williams; sons, Joshua Curtis (Amy Jo) Short, John (Ashley) Short, Bradley (Makayla) Short and Aaron Quinn; grandbabies, Macy, Maddy, Emmette, Natalie, Robbie Lynn, CeCelia Kash, Kaelynn and Gabby (her grandbabies were her world); siblings, Tammy (Rick) Crislip, Angie (Gary) Coombs, Amy (Wayne) Hinkle, Joy (Robert) LaFever; special nephew
Jacob Crislip; the one she spent most of her life with, Ronnie Short; best friends, Sandy Miller, Bonnie Stewart, Debbie Dorsey and Marla Short. She will also be missed by her four-legged fur babies, Clutch and Sissy. Ginger will be missed by all!
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jubert John Williams, Jr. (Johnny).
Ginger was a Christian by faith and a member of Halo Church.
Keeping with Ginger’s wishes, a private service will be honored. Final resting place will be at Jubert and Hazel’s Garden.

Alyssa “Lyss” Deann McCartney
Alyssa “Lyss” Deann McCartney, 15, of Cowen, passed away Monday, September 23, 2024 at her residence. She was born September 19, 2009 in Summersville, a daughter of Patrick Wayne and Kathryn Louise Laferty McCartney.
Alyssa was a ninth grade student at Webster County High School. She enjoyed playing softball for the Cowen Royals, basketball, cheerleading, traveling, reading, riding motorcycles with her dad, hanging out with friends and making people laugh and watching beautiful sunsets. But most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was daddy’s girl and mommy’s world and Aunt Sam’s little princess.
In addition to her loving parents she is survived by brothers, Riley McCartney, Paidon McCartney, Colten McCartney, extended family, Mike Copley, Michael (Carter and Thea) Malcomb, Matthew (Shalee) Malcomb, Joshua Malcomb, Christine Copley, paternal grandfather, Luther McCartney, maternal grandmother, Juanita Lafferty, uncles, Jonathon McCartney, James (Nicole) McCartney, Daniel Lafferty and Cody Myers aunts, Whitney (Chris) Ledsome, Samantha Lafferty, great-grandmother, Kathryn Myers, great aunt, Kattie Bailey, great uncle, Daris Holcomb, cousins, Zaylah Ledsome, Brantley McCartney, Kaylee McCartney, Ryder McCartney, bonus moms, Amy Bennett, Brittney Ritchie, dogs, Rusty, Diesel and many other family and friends.
Her paternal grandmother, Betty McCartney and maternal grandfather, Mark Laferty preceded her in death.
Services were held at 4:00pm. Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Jim Varney officiating. A gathering of family and friends was held from 1:00pm until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Shirley Lou (Givens) Williams
Shirley Lou (Givens) Williams, 88, of Sutton, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital, Sutton.
She was born in Strange Creek, WV, on August 27, 1936, the daughter of the late Marvin & Elizabeth Givens. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth James “Jim” Williams; son, James Kenneth “Jamie” Williams; and brothers, Edgar Givens and Stanton Givens.
Shirley was the owner and on the Board of Directors for Horn of America.
Shirley loved to travel, and anything to do with water such as swimming, fishing, boating, and cruising. She also loved her family and the outdoors.
She is survived by her son, Jeffery Williams (Maria) of Sutton; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Williams (James); sister, Violet Cunningham; and grandchildren, Matthew Williams, Tyler Williams, Jerod Williams, Nathan Williams, Mandy Jones, Amber Violett, Mariah Marion, and an abundance of great- grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 1:00 pm, Friday, October 11, 2024 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with Pastor Shawn Frame officiating. Burial followed at Sutton Cemetery, Sutton, WV. Friends called 11:00 to 1:00 pm, at the funeral home.

Sarah Lee (Bender) Tallarito
Sarah Lee (Bender) Tallarito, 34, of Sutton, WV, passed away on October 3, 2024. She was born on November 23, 1989 in Weston, WV.
Sarah was a very talented writer who wrote many short stories and poems. She loved sitting by the river bank fishing. When she was young she and her cousins created a group called the Six Pack. There was one boy and five girls in the group. They spent a lot of time together making memories that would last a lifetime. She will truly be missed by her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joshua Tallarito; mother, Sally Bender; children, Jeremy, Jaden and Kimmy Kate; grandmother, Hattie Humphreys; sister, Regina Moore; uncles and aunt Tony & Elva Rogers and Carl Bender.
Sarah’s wishes were to be cremated. No services are planned at this time.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at a later date.

Travis Allen Miller
Travis Allen Miller, born on August 12, 1978, in Webster Springs, WV, passed away on October 4, 2024, in Webster County, WV. Known affectionately as “Flea” or “Bubby” as his sister called him, Travis was a beloved son, companion, brother, uncle, cousin and friend whose passion for the outdoors defined much of his life.
Travis enjoyed collecting artifacts, camping, and spending time in nature. He was an avid reader and had a remarkable talent for wood carving, often creating beautiful pieces that reflected his love for the natural world.
A proud wrestler in high school, Travis achieved the honor of competing at the state level, a testament to his dedication and athletic spirit. He cherished his time with friends and family, and nothing made him happier than being outdoors, often accompanied by his beloved cat, Blu.
Travis is survived by his mother, Cynthia (Miller) Barbe (Nathan Barbe); his father Stephen Miller; his sister, Stacey Williams (Josh Williams); and his companion of over 20 years, Megan Cook. He leaves behind six nephews: Cody Hamrick, Jaron Hamrick, Jeffery Bennett, Damien Williams, Levi Williams, and Connor Williams; as well as niece, Eliza Williams. Travis also had several aunts, uncles, and cousins, including his “special” aunts: Garnette Woodring, Jeannie Miller (Crystal Cutlip), and Melissa Miller, that checked on him daily. His uncle Kevin Cogar held a special place in his heart and was someone he greatly admired.
Travis will be deeply missed by all who knew him, as his spirit and love for life will continue to inspire those he touched.
Services to celebrate Travis’ life will be held 1pm, Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Adams-Reed Funeral Home, Cowen, with Brother David Terry officiating. Burial will follow at Handschumacher Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation from 12pm-1pm on the day of the service, also at the funeral home.

Hazel Boggs
Hazel Boggs, 83, of Exchange, WV passed away at home with her loving family by her side. She was born at home in Exchange to parents, William and Prude Helmick on March 8, 1941.
Hazel enjoyed sitting outside, going for walks, watching birds and wildlife, visiting family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence O. Boggs; son, Fredrick Boggs, brothers, Edward, Carl, Ray, French, Franklin and Harry Helmick.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, James Boggs of Exchange, Lester and wife, Winnie Blevins of Jane Lew; her daughter, Carolyn Hacker and William Hacker of Exchange, WV; grandchildren; Ethan Hacker of Exchange, Sherri Hacker and Robert Heater of Exchange; great grandchildren, Kaleb Heater of Exchange and Jamie Poland of Elkins; great great-granddaughter, Payton Poland and brother, Larry Helmick of Dianna.
Service for Hazel were at 1 pm, Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Stockert Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV. Pastor Fred Schoolcraft officiated the service. Visitation was from 11-1 pm before the service.

Phylis Emaline (Deulley) Hashman
Phylis Emaline (Deulley) Hashman of Chapel Rd, Gassaway, WV formerly of Mt. Zion, WV went home to be with the Lord on the morning of October 7, 2024, at the home of her daughter where she had resided for the last 6 months.
Phylis was born on March 4, 1935, near Normantown, WV. She was the youngest daughter of Oletta Mowery Deulley. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by three brothers; Cecil (Mary), Carlos (Deulley), and Val Gene (Dorothy) Deulley; her husband Darrill Hashman, and infant son Gary Lee Hashman.
Phylis was affectionately nicknamed as “Sally” by her late husband Darrill and the name was adopted by family and friends.
Phylis was a 1953 graduate of Normantown High School where she was voted as the best athlete, laziest, biggest pest, and class clown. On October 25, 1954, Phylis married the love of her life Darrill Hashman in Deep Creek, MD. They enjoyed each other for 56 years, 1 month, 3 days, 8 hours, and 10 minutes until his passing on November 28, 2010. Darrill was a Baptist minister, and she traveled with him as often as possible as he pastored churches in Ohio and West Virginia. She claims to have listened to over 450 of his sermons.
Phylis worked as a press operator at Peerless Laundry in Elyria, OH, for 68 cents an hour in the early 1950’s. She served as an auxiliary member and gift shop volunteer at Minnie Hamilton Health System in Grantsville, WV for 28 years. She was also active with the Mt Nebo Gospel Singing Convention serving in the Bookstore. In 2005, she was selected as the Calhoun County Belle representative for the West Virginia State Folk Festival in Glenville, WV. She was a member of the Mt Carmel Baptist Church in Normantown, WV.
Phylis enjoyed reading her Bible, quilting, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune until her eyesight failed her. She also enjoyed visiting with others and sharing her stories.
Surviving are children, Leon Hashman of Normantown, WV, Monica (Edwin) White of Perkins, WV, and Cindy Hashman of New Bern, NC. She was known as Mam-maw to grandchildren, Dallas (Nok) Hashman of Buckhannon, WV, Dillon (Jacqueline) Hashman of Glenville, WV, Heather (Kelland) Garland of Simpsonville, KY, and Amanda (Dennis) Fisher of Normantown, WV; great-grandchildren, Brianna Hashman of Buckhannon, WV, Elliette and Eden Hashman of Glenville, WV, and Emma, Ethan, and Addison Garland of Simpsonville, KY. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Norman “Sonny” Hashman of Elyria, OH as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank special friends Wilda Jo Gerwig, Kenny and Pam Mohr, Susan McKenzie, WV Caring, and many other family and friends for the love, care, and support they generously lavished on Sally over the years and in her last days.

A funeral service for Phylis was held at 1 pm at the Mt Carmel Baptist Church in Normantown, WV on Thursday, October 10, 2024, with Elder Larry Fisher and Brother Henry Linden officiating.
Her visitation was on Wednesday evening from 5-8 pm at Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway, WV as well as from 12-1 pm prior to the funeral service on Thursday at the church.
Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, Normantown.

Vonda “Wanda” S. (Allen) Buckhannon
Vonda “Wanda” S. (Allen) Buckhannon, 76, of Burnsville, WV passed away at home with her loving daughter by her side on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 5:15 pm.
She was born in Sutton, WV, on December 25, 1947 to the late, Harry “Mitch” Allen and Lorraine “Stack” (Conley) Allen.
Wanda was preceded in death by her sons, Alan G. Buckhannon and Tracy G. Buckhannon; brother, John “Moe” Allen and four sisters, Betty Jo Gross, Patty Allen, Fonda Conley (her twin), and Lois (Diane) Heater.
She will be lovingly missed by her husband, Alva G. Buckhannon, daughter, Stacy Buckhannon (Bracci); grandson, Owen Davis; siblings, Harry Allen, Jerry Allen (Susie), Linda Helmick (Danny), Nancy Ratliff (Sam), Edna Shaffer (Alfred), Janet Gibson (Robert), Brenda Tinney (Curtis); many special in-laws and nieces and nephews.
Wanda was united in marriage to Alva on December 22, 1967. She then moved to Lake Milton, Ohio in 1970 where she spent 37 years before returning to West Virginia in 2007. Wanda was a hardworking, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time outdoors planting flowers and cooking huge meals for her family. She had the biggest, caring and giving heart helping anyone she could.
A private service will be held for the family.

Victoria Ann Hudson
Victoria Ann Hudson, 36, of Nebo passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at WVU Medicine United Hospital Center, Bridgeport surrounded by her family.
She was born in Red House, WV on August 12, 1988, to Sheila Crow Gibson and the late Larry Gibson.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Gibson, Jr. and maternal grandmother, Shirley Ann Crow.
Victoria was affectionately known by many as Vicky. She was a sweet soul who thoroughly enjoyed her job at the Clay Healthcare Center and making people happy. She was an imaginative baker and she created many miracles in the kitchen. Her and her husband, Greg, enjoyed decorating their lawn for Halloween and the inside of their house during the Christmas season. She was a very talented woman. Her and Greg’s wedding anniversary was October 6th. Vicky enjoyed taking care of her two dogs and two cats. She will be deeply missed by all her family.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 12 years, Greg Hudson; mother, Sheila Crow Gibson; Aunt Cindy, Aunt Melinda, Aunt Charlene, and Uncle Scott; father-in-law, Timothy “Pops” Taylor; mother-in-law, Cathy Taylor; sister-in-law, Tiffany Taylor; cousins, Jessica Taylor and Kenny Ray Taylor; and nieces, Candice Centers and husband, Cody and Carlie Jo Hedrick.

Christopher Charles Spence
Christopher Charles Spence, 47, of Hanover, PA, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Born August 31, 1977 in Baltimore, MD he was the son of Charlotte Ann Harris Spence of Finksburg and the late Richard Hamilton Spence.
He worked for Conewago Enterprises, Inc. He was an avid Ravens fan.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his daughter Hannah Christine Wren and husband Seth of Spring Grove, PA; a granddaughter Wynona Wren, a brother Richard Hamilton Spence, Jr. of Glenville, PA; aunts and uncles Cynthia and Keith Livesay, Bob and Sherlia Harris, Colette Harris, Cheryl and Johnny Fox, Candace and John Wimmer, Rodney and Jane Harris. Also survived by many cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother Michael Anthony Spence and grandparents John R. Harris and Janice Jennings Harris.
The family received friends on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Funeral services began at 7 p.m. with Rev. Art Monroe officiating.
The family also received friends on Monday, October 14, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Stockert Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Rd., Flatwoods, WV. Graveside services will follow at High Knob Cemetery.
