West Virginia American Water recently announced the recipients of its 12th annual Firefighting Support Grant program which includes a small grant for Braxton County. This year, the company will provide over $26,000 in financial assistance to 29 fire departments and emergency management agencies located within the company’s service area.
Braxton County Office of Emergency Services was awarded $817.90 to purchase two swivel couplings with long ears for hydrant hook up to be used on the county’s new arial apparatus.
“We are honored to invest in community fire services annually through our Firefighting Support Grant program,” said Rob Burton, president of West Virginia American Water. “Given that many of these volunteer-led organizations operate without full-time staff, our support is essential for keeping their doors open and their vital services available to residents throughout West Virginia.”
Since 2013, West Virginia American Water’s Firefighting Support Grant has awarded 163 totaling over $156,000 to fire departments and emergency management agencies across the state.
The program covers a wide range of fire department expenses associated with personal protective gear, communications equipment, firefighting tools, water handling equipment, training and related activities that will be used to support community fire protection.
A team of West Virginia American Water employees selected the grant recipients through a rigorous screening and application review process.
