School has officially begun for me at Braxton Middle School and students will arrive on Thursday. Education is incredibly important for personal growth, societal progress, and individual well-being. The beginning of school is a terrific opportunity to commit to a fresh start, set goals, and strive to be better than before. I am excited to meet this year’s eighth graders and look forward to learning and experiencing a wonderful year together as we explore the history, geography, economics, and civic life of West Virginia.
It is inspiring to witness how movements can transform communities and spaces! In Derek Sivers’ TED Talk, he highlights two crucial elements for starting a movement: a courageous leader and engaged followers. Shelly Sutphin’s initiative to restore the Sutton Pool exemplifies this perfectly. Despite years of disuse, her vision and the collective effort of volunteers have restored hope that the pool might open again. While there is still work ahead, the community’s response has been remarkable. Positive change can happen when we unite, are determined, and work together.
On a personal note, our extended family grew by one as we welcomed Lilah Jane Arbogast, my great-niece, into the world. Congratulations to her parents Dusty and Elzabeth. We adore her!
