Fernando Rodriguez
Fernando Rodriguez was born in La Salud, Cuba on May 6, 1951 to Adolia and Fernando Rodriguez. At 11 years old he and his family emigrated to the US, landing in Miami as Cuban refugees and was forever grateful for his new US home. They soon moved to NY where he met his oldest friends Olga and Michael Gioulis. In 1976 he married his first wife, Christine and had two daughters, Alana and Eva. He worked as an Operating room technician in NY. In 1976 he returned to Miami to work in his father’s convenience store business. He eventually opened a very successful Miami liquor store until he sold it in 1997. He then obtained an accounting degree and later worked from home editing textbooks. In 2007 he moved to WV and made a life with Olga and her family.
Fernando was an avid motorcycle rider. From his Honda CB450 as an 18 year old, to his Harleys, and eventually his last bike, a 2016 BMW K1600 GTL he rode to CA, CO, LA, AZ, and his last big ride from WV to AK. In Braxton Democrat articles “Why I Ride” he narrated many of his travels. He loved photography and was frequently photographing beauty pageants, musical events, the Braxton Fair, the Farmers Market, the Elk River Float and more. He also loved music, playing guitar as a teen, seeing concerts of the many Rockers of the 60’s and 70’s and owned 4 guitars and amps.
Fernando loved to help others and if he knew you needed something, he would just go get it, frequently saying “don’t try just do”. He loved his daughters dearly and always wanted to help and provide for them. He was a spiritual person and open to the positive message in all faiths of loving and helping others. He lived the message.
His passing on August 16, 2024 is felt deeply by his loving partner, Olga, his daughters Alana and Eva, his “brother in spirit” Michael and wife Dot, his brother Alex and wife Alice, brother Jorge, his stepchildren Gabriel and partner Catherine, Moriah and husband Dan, his step grandchildren Quinn, Julius, Jordan, Maxwell and Fiona and the many friends he made throughout his life.
