Clinton Ewing Linger
Clinton Ewing Linger, 74, of Vernon Road, Sutton, WV, passed away on July, 31, 2024. He was born on June 9, 1950 in Weston, WV.
Clinton graduated high school in 1969. He was a retired School Bus Driver and Custodian for Braxton County Board of Education. Clinton loved watching westerns and tinkering on cars and riding lawn mowers. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. He cherished his family and his dog, Bandy. Clinton was a Methodist by faith and proudly served his country in the United States NAVY.
Clinton is preceded in death by his father, Edgar Linger; mother, Ialene Linger Shaver; stepfather, Everett Shaver, and brother, Donald Linger.
He is survived by his wife, Helena Linger; son, Christopher and wife Robin; daughters, Amy Jeffries and Rebecca Stancati; grandchildren, Allen Thayer, CJ Linger, McKinley Burchett, Sophia Stancati; brothers, Edgar Linger, William Linger, Larry Linger and Neal Linger; special cousin, Teresa Fringer.
Services for Clinton were at 1 pm, Monday, August 5, 2024 at Stockert Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV. Pastor John McQuain officiated the service. Visitation was from 11 am-1 pm before the service. Final resting place is in the Mt Hebron Cemetery.

Delva Loretta Carpenter
Delva Loretta Carpenter, 87, of Rocky Mount, VA, formerly of Hacker Valley, WV passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, VA surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Braxton County on August 14, 1936, daughter of the late Noah M. Bleigh, Sr. and Lanna G. (Cool) Bleigh. Loretta was united in marriage on April 21, 1957 to Loyd J Carpenter. They shared a wonderful 60 years together before his passing.
Our Granny was loved and will be greatly missed by her family; One daughter Sherry Cogar, husband Allen of Rocky Mount, VA; one son Dr. Zandall J. Carpenter of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one grandson Zachary Cogar, girlfriend Ashlie Westfall of Rocky Mount, VA; one granddaughter Leandra Hobson, husband Michael of Troutman, NC; five grand fur babies Scout, Hunter, Harlow, Sasha, and Levi; two great grandsons Jackson and Raylan Cogar; two great granddaughters Addyson and Baylee Cogar all of Rocky Mount, VA; one step granddaughter, Emily Dooley and her three sons of New Castle, VA.
Cherishing the life of Loretta is five sisters: Lulabelle Bleigh, Peggy Bleigh, and Louise Bleigh all of Buckhannon Run Road, Leone Riffle and husband Claude of Kingwood, and Linda Bowman and husband Steve of Morgantown; 3 brothers: Noah Bleigh, Jr. and wife Sharon of Jane Lew, William R. Bleigh of North Carolina, and Roger Bleigh and wife Lynn of Buckhannon; and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Lois Pearl Garrison, and Lola Faye Jerden.
Loretta, known to her immediate family as GRANNY, was a member of Living Waters Assembly of God in Rocky Mount, Va. She loved her family, the outdoors, and the mountains, with a fresh blanket of snow. She, like her former husband, enjoyed making crafts and over the years pieced many beautiful quilts. Granny cherished spending time with her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends will gather at Dodd and Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, West Virginia on Friday August 9, 2024 from 11AM-1PM. The funeral service will be held at 1PM at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Allen Cogar officiating. Interment will follow at the Ware Cemetery on Cowger Hill.

Ruth Ann Miller Weese
Ruth Ann Miller Weese, 86, of Webster Springs passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born August 30, 1937 in Bolair she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Gladys Sill Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Mitchell Weese; grandson, Mitchell Sanson; and siblings: Harvey Miller and Carolyn Edwards.
She attended Sand Run Church where she was very active in their Vacation Bible School, holding many titles such as director, program designer, and teacher. She was also involved in the Sand Run Busy Bees, which was her community 4-H association. Ruth Ann was also a graduate of Glenville State College where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching and taught the students of Webster County. It was a major highlight of her career to have seen her former students succeed. She was also a proud member of the WV Retired Teacher’s Association. She had the gift of a green thumb and was able to nurse flowers quickly back to health. When she wasn’t taking care of her flowers, family, and students, she enjoyed keeping her brain sharp by doing word searches.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Cindy Weese, Maxann Weese, and Maxetta Gadd (and her favorite son-in-law, Chris); grandchildren: Kara Kasekamp (Gary), Stephanie “Stephan” Carpenter, Timothy Seibel (Angela), Michelle Taylor, Michael Sanson (Amanda), Cody Taylor (Kayley), Cole Taylor (Jerrica), Pryce Gadd (Jenna), Gracen Gadd, and Rye Gadd; great-grandchildren: Finn (Haley), Alivia, Bryson, Zachary, Brooke, Connor, Carleigh, Elizabeth, Jersey, Mackynzie, Allena, and Wrenlee; and one great-great-grandson, Weston; her special caregivers, for whom the family is extremely thankful, Ann Meadows, Amanda Dillon, and Selena Cochran; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Services were held 6pm, Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Rev. James M. Cowger and Sister Rachel Isabell officiating. Friends joined the family for visitation from 4pm-6pm at the funeral home on Sunday evening prior to the service. Burial was held 10AM, Monday, August 5, 2024 at West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin.

Donald Ray Wine, Sr.
Donald Ray Wine, Sr. 84, of Webster Springs, passed away at his residence on Friday, July 26, 2024.
Born March 12, 1940 in Webster Springs, he was the son of the late Oscar and Lillian (Cochran) Wine. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Bobby Wine, Johnny Joe Wine, and Shirley Wine; sister, Marjorie Arthur; and half-brother, Hayward Cutlip.
Donald retired from Webster County Memorial Hospital Maintenance department after working there for over thirty years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a skilled craftsman, and on any given day you could find him having had created a masterpiece out of any ol’ piece of wood. His love for the Lord led him to become the Pastor of Big Run Church. He would also spread the news of his Savior throughout nursing homes and even in jails in a quest to give everyone an opportunity to be led to Jesus Christ. He attended church at New Hope Church and Jumbo Community Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Donnie Wine; grand-daughter, Tiffany Wine; daughter-in-law, Drema Wine; brother, Norman Wine; sisters: Bonnie Rice, Cleo Chapman, and Betty Hamrick; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends to mourn his passing.
Services to celebrate Donald’s life were held 1pm, Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs with Pastor David Chapman officiating. Friends joined the family from Noon to 1:00PM prior to the service for visitation. Burial followed at Cogar Cemetery, Guardian.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Dodd & Reed Funeral Home to assist with arrangements.

John Emery Wine
John Emery Wine, 76, St. Marys, WV, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Camden Clark Medical Center. Born in Braxton County, WV, on February 09, 1948, he was the son of the late Alfred Wine and Ruby Sands Wine, and Ernest and Virginia Coss Wilson. He was an oilfield worker and enjoyed motorcycles.
He is survived by his life partner, Aleta Cox; five children, Sheryl Covey, Mandy (Robbie) Sanders, Stacy Wine, Cayla (Jason) Maston, Craig Cox (Elizabeth Taylor); and several grandchildren; four siblings, Laurel Martin, Jeanette Cincurak, Ressie Conrad, and Jean Meeks: and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and the parents who raised him, Ernest Wilson and Virginia Coss Wilson; and three sisters, Lorene Williams, Gae Anderson, and Joann Ratliff.
Memorial services were held 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, WV, with Pastor Dan Boley officiating. Friends called from 6 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
Clarice “Ellen” Lynch Stilwell
Clarice “Ellen” Lynch Stilwell, 83 of Glenville, WV; departed this earthly life on July 26, 2024 at Select Specialties Rehabilitation Center, Morgantown, WV, due to several medical conditions.
She was born on November 6, 1940 in Braxton County, WV; daughter of the late John “Woody” Lynch and Ruth Ellen Berry Lewis, and step-daughter of Randall “Bunny” Lewis.
In 1960 Ellen was united in marriage to Denzil Stilwell who preceded her in death in 2011.
Ellen enjoyed traveling with her family in various parts of the country, camping and boating with numerous friends in her earlier years and studying genealogy. Ellen was a life-long caregiver to her son Phillip, until his passing in June, 2024.
Ellen is survived by her nephew Jeff (Corrine) Lynch of Clarksburg, WV; and niece, Yvette Lynch of Huntington, WV.
She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins of the Lynch and Stilwell families and she was blessed to be a great aunt and great-great aunt to several.
Along with her parents and step-father Ellen is preceded in death by her beloved husband Denzil, son Phillip, and a brother Harry D. Lynch.
Ellen’s request for cremation has been honored and a Celebration of her and Phillip’s life will be conducted at 3:00 PM; Sunday, September 8, 2024 at the Burnsville Community Building in Burnsville, WV. Friends will be received from 1:00 – 3:00 PM; Sunday, September 8, at the community building in Burnsville.

Mr. James Edward Prince
Mr. James Edward Prince, 80 of Winfield passed away July 27, 2024, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim is a graduate of Sutton High School and retired from the Department of HUD, Charleston, WV office. He was a lifetime outdoorsman and loved to hunt.
He is preceded in death by his son Michael Prince and his parents Dick and Retta Taylor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mrs. Linda K. Prince; daughter Melissa and her husband Matt Booth; daughter-in-law Crissy Prince; brother Robert Prince; sisters Judy McCarthy and Edna Mollahan; and three grandchildren Mariah Booth, Zachary Booth, and Sarah Prince.
At his request there will be no services.
