Senators announce Direct Spending Award for Braxton County

Last week, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin, announced two awards from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to improve rural health services and emergency services for communities in West Virginia. That award will provide funding for two additional ambulances for Braxton County.

 These awards, which were secured through Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests made by Senator Capito and Senator Machin in Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24), will help acquire new also expand the UniteUs West Virginia Program in the Huntington area as well as fund ambulances for Braxton County.

“As the Ranking Member of the Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee, I was able to secure the funding to help direct resources from HHS directly into our West Virginia communities,” Ranking Member Capito said. “These awards will help connect West Virginians to critical health and emergency services, especially in our rural areas, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have in our state.”

A $470,000 HHS CDS award will go to FaithHealth Appalachia, Inc. (Huntington, W.Va.) to expand the UniteUs West Virginia program to provide critical healthcare and wraparound services to rural West Virginians.

Braxton County will receive a $400,000 HHS CDS award to purchase two new ambulances for the Braxton County Emergency Ambulance Service Authority.
