Exciting and Uncertain times…

Well, an already turbulent political world got kicked up a notch with President Biden’s announcement this weekend that he is ending his campaign for reelection. Like many, I have been very concerned about the direction our nation is going for several years. I hate the fact that everyone in power seems only interested in what is best for them or their party and does everything to justify their position. Obviously, we working people don’t know who or what to believe.

What’s best for the people of our nation, not just a select influential few, has to return to the center of our government’s planning process, else our future is not very bright.

Now on to some better subject matter for this ole writer to think and talk about… We are on baby watch.

Yes, MyKaela and husband Shane are expecting baby number two… our second great-great grandchild.

MyKaela made it through the full moon. As I write this she is at her doctors’ appointment. Word is, they will set a date for inducing labor today, so it shouldn’t be long. I know that date can’t come soon enough for MyKaela.

We know it will be a little girl, big brother, Memphis has named her Pink, but I’m pretty sure his parents have other plans. He too is excited. I think his adjustment will be one of the most interesting things to watch.

So, the political world is not the only thing exciting in our lives. We are all on pins and needles waiting on the little one to make her debut. Hopefully there will be more to report in my next column.

On a final note. Our community has again answered the call to help her neighbors. We had to deal with the tragic death of a father’s drowning while saving his son this week. As usual our first responder community did their job promptly and proficiency. It is kind of ironic that the newly formed DNR Dive and Rescue Team’s first real response would be here in Braxton County.

Lots of others stepped up as well. Volunteers aided in the search in addition to the fire departments, DNR, and the Corps.

You will find a letter in this edition that thanks a local business for a donation, what that letter does completely say is how boat owners at the marina saw a need to help a grieving family and didn’t hesitate to get involved. Erica and Tim Whitney and their staff at Sutton Lake Marina went above and beyond to accommodate and comfort the family as well as aid the rescuers in any way they could.

While it was a tragedy that we all wish could have been avoided, it’s great to live in a community filled with caring and compassionate individuals!
