Janis Young, of Frametown, W.V. will represent Braxton County at the 2024 West Virginia Folk Festival in Glenville on June 21st through the 23rd, 2024.
The Folk Festival parade will be held on June 22 at 11:00 am. Janis was a member of the Spruce Grove CEOS club for 28 years before the club folded due to declining membership. She then joined the Burnsville CEOS club and continues to enjoy the community outreach and education as well as the fellowship with the wonderful members of the CEOS.
Janis has held the positions of Vice President and Secretary of the CEOS area council, President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of her local club.
She loves supporting her community and helps with the 4-H organization, Hearts of Hope, the Gassaway Lions Club and her church Gassaway Baptist. Janis is a retired Occupational Therapist/Rehabilitation Manager enjoying her vocation for 38 years.
After retirement she performed private elderly care for many until due to physical limitations she had to stop. She now volunteers 3 days a week at Encore A Thrift Store, assisting many with needs such as the monthly food pantry, emergency food boxes, Angel Tree, and many other services that Encore provides.
Janis was born and raised in Oakdale Connecticut, Pittsburgh for 12 years, and West Virginia for 30 years. “This is where God brought me and knew I belonged here” she states. She used to hunt with her late husband, Robert Young, and now likes to garden and float with her “noodle”. She is proud of her 3 children and two granddaughters. She is grateful for her church family, friends coworkers and acquaintances here in West Virginia. West Virginia is truly “almost like heaven”. “The CEOS gives me a chance to help my community, to have a purpose, to inspire the youth, and to laugh, I love to laugh!”
