Gerald Michael “Bud” Stump
Gerald Michael “Bud” Stump, 68, of Gassaway, formerly of Ohio passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
He was born on June 14, 1955, in Gassaway, West Virginia, to the late Gerald and Marie Greenleaf.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Case Stump.
Bud had a wandering soul and enjoyed traveling. He worked for many years as a truck driver and briefly at the coal mine. He enjoyed traveling around town on his lawn mower and taking care of his little dog, Bubby.
He is survived by his children, Christina Stump, Robert Stump, and Dewayne Hamrick. Nine grandchildren, and brothers; Frank Stump, and Stephen Greenleaf. Sisters; Sharon Haymond, Judy K. Bohannon, Marlene Woody, Darlene Greenleaf, Cathy Greenleaf and Patty Greenleaf.
Bud will be cremated, and no public services will be held.

Catherine Barbara Armstrong
Catherine Barbara Armstrong, 77, of Morgantown, formerly of Arlington, Virginia), passed away at home on Monday, May 20, 2024, peacefully in her sleep.
She was born in Fort Totten, NY on January 2, 1947, to the late Daniel Kevin Byrne and late Helena Nickerson Byrne of Seaford, Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LTC James T. Armstrong and her brother, Sean Byrne.
Catherine took great pride in her service as an operating room nurse in Qui Nhon, Vietnam, and in her later achievement of a Masters in Nurse Midwifery from Georgetown University. She enjoyed her life in Morgantown surrounded by friends, neighbors and fellow members of her church. She often spoke fondly of her upbringing in a military family and her later marriage to a career Army officer and their life overseas.
Left to cherish her memories are her son, Attorney Daniel K. Armstrong and wife, Jerri, of Elkview; daughter, Dr. Caroline Armstrong and husband, Mike Riley, of Petersburg, WV; grandchildren James Armstrong and Calvin Riley; her brother and his wife Thomas & Terri Byrne of Gloucester Point, Virginia, and sister, E. Ann Byrne of Newport News, Virginia. Catherine will also be mourned by her stepson, David Ian Armstrong and his wife, Christy and their children Lindsey and Wells Armstrong of Lawrenceville, Georgia.
In keeping with Catherine’s wishes she will be cremated, and inurnment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia with her late husband, LTC James T. Armstrong in Court 7, Section PP, Column 22 in Niche 2 with full military honors in accordance with the nature and character of her service during a time of war.

Gene Edward Cox, Jr
Gene Edward Cox, Jr, 48 of Cowen passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Raleigh General Hospital after a short illness.
Jr was born December 28, 1975, in Richwood and was the son of the late Gene Edward and Shirley Mae Goff Cox, Sr.
He was a Baptist by faith. Jr loved to make people laugh, he took great pleasure in helping people any way he could and would give you the shirt off his back. He enjoyed heavy metal music, fishing, working on cars and computers, but most of all, spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Surviving are his loving long time companion, Misty Carter, siblings; William (Cathy) Cox, Mike (Debra) Cox, Edward (April) Cox, Drusilla (Gary) Anderson, Christina (Chris) Lough and Laurah Butcher any many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Memorial service will be 5:00 PM, Saturday, June 15, 2024 at McFarlane Chapel Church , Camden-On-Gauley with Pastor Jim Varney officiating. Friends may join the family for a memorial gathering one hour prior to the service at the church.

Phyllis Ann Clevenger Lindsay
Phyllis Ann Clevenger Lindsay, 74, of Craigsville, passed after an extended illness on May 13, 2024, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. She was born December 20, 1949, in Richwood, a daughter of the late George Clevenger and Joyce Butcher Clevenger.
Phyllis was a Jehovah witness, a previous receptionist for Dr. Prendergast, (optometrist in Summersville), and a former member of the Ruritan Club of Birch River. She enjoyed bible study, gardening, flowers, playing farkle, sewing, cooking, camping, fishing, and volunteering at Gerald R. Freeman campground.
Surviving is her husband, Roger Lindsay; children, Teresa (Jeff) Gonzolez of Marietta, OH, Rae (Jean) Neel of Buckeye Lake, OH, Billy Neel of Webster Springs; stepchildren, Stephanie (Roy) Farley, Jennifer McCourt, and Lindsey Neel, all of Craigsville, Kerry (William) Green of Thomasville, NC, and Patricia (Shane) Felver of Greenwich, OH; sisters, Terry, Sandra, Nancy, Lisa, and Mandy; brother, Danny and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, sister, Julie Sill preceded her in death.

Clarence Danny Lynch
Clarence Danny Lynch, 81 of Webster Springs, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at his home with his loving wife, his sister-in-law Frances, and Pastor Shawn by his side. He was born January 21, 1943 in Richwood to the late Clarence and Helen O’Dell Lynch. He retired from the Public Service Commission after 40 years of service and attended First Baptist Church of Webster Springs.
Danny enjoyed riding his Harley Motorcycle and side by side; was an avid fisherman, enjoying Canadian fishing trips, liked a good argument, and enjoyed hunting, camping, boating, waterskiing, and was an avid WVU basketball and football fan; he loved NASCAR and hockey. He spent his time working on vehicles and tinkering on things and was a FORD man, never considering any other automaker. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his brothers Cecil Ray Lynch and Ricky Lynch; brother-in-law James Paul Hamrick; and nephews Dana Lynch Jr. and Jay Lynch.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy Hammon Lynch; brothers Frank (Frances) Lynch, Dana (Charlotte) Lynch, and Jack (Barb) Lynch; sister Ruth Ann Hamrick; special niece Carla McCourt; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends to mourn his passing.
Memorial Services to celebrate Danny’s life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with Pastor Shawn Frame officiating. Friends may join the family for a time of gathering one hour prior to service time, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM at the Funeral Home.

Margarette “Mary” Haubert
Margarette “Mary” Haubert was born on December 4, 1930 in Braxton County, WV to the late Coy Stout and Madge Gerwig-Stout.
Mary was 93, at the time of passing on Thursday, May 30, 2024.
She is survived by one brother, Kenneth and was preceded in death by her brothers, Jarrel and Darrell and sisters, Virginia and Wilma Jean.
As a small child growing up in West Virginia, Mary would pick berries on the Stout farm and sell them to the railroad workers as they passed near their home. Mary loved gardening and planting flowers. She also excelled in sewing and cooking. Most of all, Mary was a caring and nurturing mother who dedicated her life to caring for her children.
Preceded in death by her husband, Edward, she leaves behind a legacy in her children, Karl, Nancy (Jody), and Ron (Gwen), grandchildren, Brooke, Sophia, and Dominic, along with a host of relatives and friends.
As a mother, she was deeply devoted and dedicated to her family unto death.
Family and friends gathered on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Hardman Family Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue Weston, from noon to 2 p.m. The funeral service began at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel. Interment followed services at Carder Cemetery in Vadis, WV. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers.

Elizabeth Dora Rose
Elizabeth Dora Rose, 33, of Birch River, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Braxton Memorial Hospital, Gassaway.
Elizabeth was a 2008 graduate of Nicholas County High School. She was always a happy person and loved her dog Buster. She was born July 2, 1990 in Weston, WV the daughter of Nancy Rose.
Elizabeth is survived by her mother, Nancy Rose of Birch River; several cousins and friends who loved her very much.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Greene- Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with Rev. Linn Schiefer officiating. Family received friends 12:30 till 2: 00 pm at the funeral home. Burial followed at Bill Rose Cemetery, Bays, WV.

Sharon Kay Bailey
Sharon Kay Bailey, 54 of Cox’s Mills, WV; departed this earthly life in the evening hours of Friday, June 7, 2024 at her residence surrounded by all those who loved her.
She was born February 17, 1970 in Orrville, OH; daughter of Ellen Sue (Taylor) Byrd of Burnthouse, WV; and the late William F. “Bud” Byrd.
Sharon was a homemaker who loved caring for her family. In her spare time, Sharon enjoyed ATV riding, camping, being outdoors, spoiling her grandchildren whenever possible, and going to the beach.
Sharon is a Christian by faith and member of the Glenville Community Church in Glenville.
On May 25, 1995 Sharon was united in marriage to Richard Bailey who survives at their Cox’s Mills home.
Surviving are 5 children, Lucas Minney and wife Jessica of Burnsville, WV; Joanna Stansberry and husband Ben of Smithville, WV; Derek Minney and wife Laura of Burnthouse, WV; Daniel Minney and wife Emmalee of Burnthouse, and Mikayla Miller and husband Dustin of Harrisville, WV; and 11 grandchildren, Serenity, Addy, Jace, Kenton, Zack, Riley, Brady, Ella, Luke, Ginny, and Soraya.
Also surviving are Carolyn Lowther and husband Brenie of Linn, WV; Karrie Jones and husband Gerald of Madison, GA; Lora Jones and husband Rodney of Parkersburg, WV; and Connie Hatfield and husband Sam of Parkersburg, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with her father, Sharon is preceded in death by her sister Becky Byrd.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 AM; Thursday, June 13, 2024 with Pastor Randy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hazelgreen Cemetery in Ritchie County. Friends will be received from 5:00 – 8:00 PM; Wednesday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.

Avnell Lee Pierson-Keener
Avnell Lee Pierson-Keener, 93 of Gassaway, WV went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 9th, 2024 at Bowers Hospice of Sourthern WV. She was born in Sutton, WV on June 8th, 1931 to the late Ralph and Reva (Robinson) Hoover.
Avnell loved her Savior Jesus Christ and served Him her whole life! She attended United Baptist Church in Garden City, MI, First Baptist Church in Buckhannon, WV, and Gassaway United Methodist Church, in Gassaway, WV. She loved children and taught Sunday school for many years. She was mostly a homemaker, skilled at a number of hobbies. While taking care of her husband and raising her children she also loved flowers and gardening, had violets growing in all her windows and a vegetable garden out back. She was a skilled seamstress, making clothes for her children, and winning awards for her beautiful quilts. Friends and neighbors would often see her out walking, trying her best to stay in shape and eat healthy. She never looked her age, people guessing her to be years younger than she was. Avnell always liked to look her best, and presented herself as the elegant woman she was. She loved to travel and spent a lot of her younger years wandering around the country in a Winnabago.
Avnell married her first love Ralph Pierson in 1950 and together they had 5 children, but raised only 3 two children Randal & Tonya died as infants. In 1992 she married her second husband James Keener and spent 29 years together.
Avnell will forever be loved and missed by her daughters Sandra King, Tina (Steve) Barrett, and son Roger Pierson; along with 10 grandchildren; Josh King, Tonya (Russell) Young, Justen Pierson, Saranda (Sean) Eldritch, Austen (Molly) Barrett, Brandon Barrett, and Amanda Barrett; 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Her siblings Sharon (Alvin) Roberts, Sheila (George) Calkins; sister-in-law Lois Hoover along with many other friends and family. She is preceded in death by her parents Reva & Ralph; children Randal & Tonya Pierson; husbands Ralph Pierson & James Keener; sisters Aretta Rose-James, and Elaine Dillon, brothers Ralph “Junior” Hoover and Carson Hoover.
Calling hours will be 11:30 am -1:00 PM at Greene- Robertson Funeral Home 600 Riverview Dr, Sutton, WV. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Pastor Eric Thomas of Sutton Baptist Church will be officiating. Memorial donation can be made in Avnell’s honor to Alzheimer Association at Alz.org.
