Town of Sutton Holds Regular Council Meeting

The Sutton Town Council held their most recent meeting on Thursday, February 22. The meeting was called to order by Mayor JD Hoover. Present were Recorder Robyn Dolan, Council member Catherine Hoover and by phone, Council member Jon Crum. Beth Atkins was absent and currently two seats for council are still vacant.
The Council opened the meeting by completing regular business with the approval of their February 8 meeting minutes and the payment of bills via separate motions by Catherine Hoover and by Recorder Robyn Dolan. Also approved by council was the construction permit for owners of property at 504 N. 3rd Street on a motion by Catherine Hoover.
Recorder Robyn Dolan stated there were no updates on roads and streets. She added that work is being completed as weather permits.
Municipal Judge Rodney Jamison briefly updated council on municipal court. He reminded them court had been changed from the first Thursday of the month to the first Monday.
Council members discussed the current burn pile across the river on Riverview Drive. Mayor Hoover noted that there has been an issue of individuals dumping garbage and brush. Recorder Dolan said that she would speak to the Sutton Volunteer Fire Department about having another control burn of the pile soon. The Town will have signs posted for no dumping.
The holiday schedule for town employees was discussed. Currently eight holidays are provided to employees. Council discussed possible adding days to correspond with state and federal holidays. Council member Jon Crum stated the town ordinances would need to be changed to reflect the additional holidays, if approved.
Catherine Hoover briefly updated council on an ongoing property dispute for a site adjacent to the farmers market. One party has finished their investigation and now is waiting on the other party to complete theirs. Once it is completed, a presentation will be made to council.
She also asked if there had been any contact with the property owner on South Stonewall Street. Mayor Hoover stated there had not.
At 6:23 pm, council went into an executive session. They reconvened at 6:53 pm with no decisions made. The meeting was adjourned at 6:54 pm. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 14 at 6:00 pm.
