The Braxton County Senior Center honored retiring Executive Director Mary Chapman on her final day, May 3 after over ten years leading the facility.
Gary Rexroad, incoming Executive Director, thanked Chapman during the recognition at lunch with numerous seniors in attendance. Later in the afternoon, the staff held a small, more intimate ceremony for Chapman.
“It’s not the building, it’s the leadership that has made the Senior Center what it is today,” stated Rexroad. “Her years of service to the seniors in the community are greatly appreciated.”
Several of the seniors and staff took the opportunity to stand up to thank Mary Chapman and tell stories about her work at the center.
Chapman stated she was honored and thanked the staff she had worked with over the years; however she was looking forward to spending time with her husband and family.
She spoke of a recent discussion with a colleague and something she had said to her that meant a lot.
“She figured out that you can always make more money, but you can’t make more time,” Chapman expressed.
About her replacement, Chapman stated she knew the center “was under great leadership with Gary Rexroad and good things were coming.”
