Third in Class of 2023, Loyd plans to become an accountant

By Shirley Shuman

Tempest Loyd, the daughter of Cecil and Amber Loyd, has definite plans for her future. She will enroll in Concord University this fall to major in accounting and business. She has chosen accounting as a career, and her ultimate goal is to become a CPA. Loyd explained that she chose Concord University because “it made the best impression” on her.

Obviously accounting is her favorite subject, but Loyd refrained from naming a favorite teacher. ”I don’t have [a favorite teacher] because they are all good teachers, and no one is better than another,” she explained.

What she likes best about high school,  she noted, is “the people I get to talk to because I like socializing.”  She likes least “the work, the class work,” she said. She also explained that she has not been involved in extracurricular activities. “I don’t have time,” she said. “I spend a lot of my free time with art. I like to draw, and I draw people.”  The medium she uses for her drawing is colored pencil because “it is easy to work with.”

“The teachers and how much effort they put into organizing events for us” has impacted her high school career the most, Loyd said.

If she could provide advice to the incoming freshmen, she would “tell them to socialize outside of the people they already know.”  She advises this, she said, “so they can have fresh viewpoints from other, different people.”
