With 245.50 points, the Braxton County High School Eagles earned the Region II  wrestling championship for the seventh consecutive season and for the fifteenth time overall. Eleven out of Braxton’s 12 wrestlers will be competing in the upcoming state tournament, and four of those are regional champions. Five are runners-up. Wrestlers who place in the top four in regional competition qualify for the state tournament.

Logan Bennett and Blayne Jarvis each earned his third regional championship Saturday, and Jackson Davis earned his second. Paxton Smith is one of only three freshmen regional champions in the history of Braxton County High wrestling.

Coach Sterling Beane commented that he is “very happy with how well Braxton’s wrestlers did in the regional tournament.” He added, “We’re looking forward to the state tournament and hopefully will have some champs. We’re certainly going to work hard in the next two weeks to be able to do our best.”  The state tournament is scheduled for March 2,3, and 4 in Mountain Health Arena in Huntington.
