The Sutton Volunteer Fire Department will begin their annual fund drive after a two-year absence due to COVID. “We are pleased to get back to visiting with our residence on a personal basis. We look forward to hearing from residents when they support our volunteer activities,” said Fire Chief Mike Baker.
The fund drive will begin this Saturday. Members of the department hope to visit each resident of their fire district. Businesses will receive their request for assistance via the mail service.
“Funding is more critical than ever before,” explained Baker. “Costs and mandates continue to increase while our funding from the state and city have remained constant. We purchased an additional pumper truck this past year and will take possession of a new rescue vehicle this year. We realize money is tight for everyone but we hope that the residents of our fire district come to our aid in these times of financial crisis as we do when they have an emergency.”
SVFD members soliciting funds will be dressed in uniforms and carry proper identification. If any resident has any doubt as to whether those requesting donations truly represent the fire department… they should ask to see the identification.
