Burnsville Man Charged with Sexual Abuse of Minor

Trooper C.D. Harper of the Sutton Detachment of the West Virginia State Police recently investigated a complain of sexual abuse by a parent or guardian in the Burnsville area. The officer’s initial information led him to the residence of Kevin Don Drake on Burnsville Road in Burnsville.
Trooper Harper interviewed Drake and confronted him with allegations he had sexual contact with an underage female juvenile in early October. The incident occurred at a location other than Drake’s residence, according to the criminal complaint.
At the conclusion of Trooper Harper’s investigation, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Drake, 49 on October 19. He was charged with the felony offenses of sexual abuse by parent or guardian and sexual abuse in the 1st degree. The accussed was arraigned before Braxton County Magistrate Beth Smith where his bond was set at $25,000 cash only.
If convicted of the charges against him, Drake faces one to five years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine on each charge.
At press-time, Drake remained incarcerated in the Central Regional Jail awaiting additional court appearances.
